I just posted my second wiki. I thought I would attempt to get my Brother MFC-420CN Printer/Scanner/Fax machine working today. In the process I documented my steps and made a Wiki entry. Some of the wiki's info was borrowed from Arch's other Brother wiki's and I found some info on Gentoo's wiki.
This Wiki entry is pretty large and covers how to get both the Printer and Scanner modes working in either USB mode or Network (Ethernet) mode. I've tested all of the methods with success and all with the latest version of CUPS. Any users who have tried to get their Brother printer working without success before this are encouraged to check out this wiki entry as the methods used can be easily applied to other models.

If my wiki entry saved your day.. let me know

Hi and thank you for the wiki. I used your help from wiki to install my Brother MFC-425CN that use the driver from MFC-210C, but it's not working. I can install the printer on Cups, everything seems to work but when i do printing test notthing happens not even a error. Can you help me debbuging this. I'm installing it on the network on a router with (sockrt://192.168.2.100:9100) and this machine has an ip 192.168.3.1 because is connected to a switch. When i do a ping to the ip of the printer it works.
Thank you,

I haven't done the scanner part yet, but the printer part seems to have worked for the MFC-7820N. Two minor hickups: 1. When I tried to create the link to /usr/bin/tcsh, I got a message that /bin/csh already existed. Which was fine I guess. 2. The rpmextracts created 2 folders, /usr & /var, which both had to have their contents copied into the proper places.
Thanks for the excellently clear directions!

Woooohooo! Printing and scanning works like a charme now with my MFC 9160.Thanks a lot for that article!
BTW: maxxfell, you're right. csh already is provided by the tcsh package, so no need to create a symlink.

Thanks for the wiki.
I'm using DCP-115C so substituted the MPC-210C as per Brother instructions.
Followed your guide carefully to the end.
When trying to print a test page - nothing. No data received at printer but
cups reports print job completed.
Any ideas?
