Hey all!
I just recently did a fresh install of Arch Linux on my main desktop, and right now I am currently trying to install xfce 4.8 but I noticed its trying to pull in hal. I thought Xfce migrated off of hal to using GIO/GVFS/Thunar-Volman? I asked in #xfce irc channel and they said that xfce 4.8 doesn't need hal any more. So I am really confused. I was hoping to not needing hal on my system any more lol.
Also, do I still need gamin installed?

just look which package from that list require hal. is simple, pacman -Qi hal after installing xfce4
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

thunar-vfs is deprecated. But it's still in the xfce group because the repository is not managed carefully.
thunar-vfs is a dependency of squeeze and xfburner.

Oh, I see xfce is still pulling in thunar-vfs =/ I read in another topic that it needs gvfs/thunar-volman but I noticed its not pulling in any of those. So now I am wondering if its pulling in everything it needs. What does xfce need?

xfce group shouldn't need hal anymore. xfce-goodies xfburn/squeeze needs it through thunar-vfs. if there's something broken file a bug.

The reason xfce4 group doesn't pull in gvfs is because it is listed as an optional dependency. Technically, not everyone need Thunar to handle devices and network shares. Thunar-volman, I think is in the xfce4-goodies group.

BTW heres a bug already about the xfce4 group and thunar-vfs:

Is there a way to block xfce4 from pulling in thunar-vfs for we don't get hal? I just want to use gio/gvfs/udisks/udev/thunar-volman. For the time being, I did an openbox install with thunar and so far thunar rocks with gvfs. Fast mounting/unmounting.

The bug was recently fixed so downloading xfce4 should no longer pull in thunar-vfs.

Change to an up-to-date mirror and do pacman -Syy. When I do pacman -Sg xfce4, I do not get thunar-vfs in the results.

Right now thunar-vfs is required by squeeze and xfburn... is it right? or they wouldn't depend on it?
