I got a new TV here recently and decided to use it instead of my older monitor. The max resolution that the TV says it can handle is 1920x1080@60Hz, but after much tinkering I am only able to get 1080@50Hz. This wouldn't be a big deal, however the display doesn't take up all screen space. As in there are large black borders on the sides of the display, even though my NVidia server settings and TV both agree it's 1920x1080. The screen also looks squished, I can tell that the aspect ratio is off. So, I can get the proper resolution but there is something scaling it into some weird ratio. I (almost) know this isn't an issue with my TV settings. Below are my Xorg log and config. Thanks in advance!

Can you select your res in nvidia utils?

Yes, it's what I use to change or try other resolutions. I would add various modelines to xorg manually but use nvidia's GUI to select them but I always get the same issue. It shows I'm in 1080@50Hz. I can go down to other resolutions and they show up fine and their correct sizes.

Try moving xorg.conf out of the way and testing X, we put our configs in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d now you may have more luck creating configs for there

the monitor resolution related setting go specifically in /etc/X11/xorg.d.conf/10-monitor.conf
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. However none of that has worked for me yet. I moved my xorg.conf and made 10-monitor.conf because it didn't exist on my system. Filled it with the right information, once from my original xorg.conf and once with a new section written straight from nvidia-xconfig. Problem still remains.
