Hi,
after I updated my kernel yesterday, I've been having some issues with my wireless. I'm on a dell inspiron 1545, using kde and I use the broadcom-wl driver form the AUR.
Anyways. After I did a system update yesterday, it would refuse to load the wl module. So I recompiled the driver and that was fine. But still my laptop refuses to use its wireless card. At first I just couldn't connect to any wireless, now the networkmanager just claims that my WLAN Interface is unavailable.
the output of iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions.

eth1 no wireless extensions.but if I try to run 'iwlist eth0 scan' it states:
eth0 Failed to read scan data : Invalid argumentI'm not that experienced with wireless, so I did what https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM43XX says and some other pages I found on google. 'iwconfig eth0 up' doesn't have any influence.
As I said, before the upgrade it worked fine and I also had configured it as it is described in the link above.
thanks for any inputs,
tobi

Which wireless card do you have black_math?

IIRC a new broadcom driver was planned to be included into the 2.6.37 kernel. This may conflict with the broadcom-wl driver.
You could search for information on the broadcom driver inside of 2.6.37... it's probably just a different module than the broadcom-wl that you have to load.

It could also be the console-kit, although downgrading is the only solution that has been proposed until now.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Did a downgrade to consolekit 0.4.1-4 but it still remains the same. It's not a problem with networkmanager though, my wired Internet connection works fine.
Couldn't find any other module. When I remove the module wl, eth0 disappears completely. Tried with brcm80211 but without any result.

Same issue. Anything new?

Just another datapoint if it matters. I'm also using broadcom-wl driver from the AUR on a Dell Inspiron 1525 and after installing 2.6.37 and rebuilding broadcom-wl, wireless is still working fine.

black-math - maybe try and see if using WICD makes a difference?

I might have the same (or a similar) problem with Gnome, GDM and WICD after updating. Only wireless connections seem to be the problem. Downgrading consolekit didn't work.

@ Ipozya: to be honest I didn't think it would work, but I gave it a try.... And it's working fine. Thank you very much. Didn't think the problem was networkmanager.
So have a good day everyone,

I am using broadcom-wl from aur all working fine. The only thing is to recompile it every time you got a kernel upgrade.
Offline
Have you tried blacklisting brcm80211? At least earlier to use the wl module you had to blacklist ssb and b43 so I thought you might have to blacklist the new driver as well.

Nice, this worked for me ![]()

Similar problem here with a Dell Vostro 3300 with BCM4313. Was working fine until updates, now it will work until I close the lid of the laptop, then it won't even scan until I reboot the machine.
12:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)I'll try the new blacklist & recompilation then report back.
Update: It turns out that my problem was a known issue with the new brcm80211 that has a fix described in the wiki;
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Br … cm80211.29
I have uninstalled broadcom-wl, blacklisted b43 & b43legacy, everything seems to be working fine again ![]()
Update 2: Turns out I don't even need to blacklist the old modules, brcm80211 takes precedence automatically. If it wasn't for the suspend bug I wouldn't even have noticed that the modules had changed!

Reinstalling broadcom-wl after kernel upgrade didn't help.
brcm doesn't support my card. It's great
