Actually.. If you look closer more people either don't care or think it's a stupid idea than "like" the idea.

Sorry, have you looked at the poll?  Also, I think you are actually the only person who has said it's a stupid idea - although plenty of people don't like it

If you only want screenshots for a specific desktop enviroment go to their forum!

XFce, GNOME and KDE each have their own.

Because, This is an Arch Linux forum. It's not an XFce, GNOME or KDE forum.

I think it's hilarious this is even being considered, As I've said. If you only want to see a certain desktop enviroment or window manager. Go to their forums or website.

you make quite a big generalisation when you say lightweight wm users dont like looking at DE screenshots.

I don't think it's a big generalization, If you are using a wm, that would be what you prefer. screenshots of wms would give you ideas and such. and yes "generally" people who love lightweight wms dont like kde and gnome, dont use them and I would think wouldnt be too interested in seeing another screen of them.

But the votes should decide, not the few opinionated people who are posting here.

I use GNOME, but I seeing nice screenshots of other WMs.  I also like knowing about capabilities and "what's new" info on other WMs too.

So I think that this is a terrible idea, sorry :-(

WRONG.

I used Openbox3 for 2 and I love seeing GNOME screenshots..

Why? I think GNOME is damn sexy.

I also enjoy seeing how badly KDE is screwing up.

Instead of a thread for each DE/WM, sub-forums would be better, same as done for Archie in usercb:

The sub-forum mod may be included later in the official phpBB. I hope it does. To add the mod is too much work and re-done for each  phpBB upgrade.

rasat, You're joking right? A seperate forum for each window manager or desktop enviroment on a forum this small would be social suicide.

Good luck??? .... usercb must be needing a "big luck" when having 1,300 posts to Arch's 79,000.

Without any "luck" in usercb the sub-forum mod solved a problem when a project come to a stage when there is a need to have separate phpBB. This would divide the users. To add new forums to accommodate different type of discussions for the project alone would also not do, front view becoming long and "disorganized".

Sub-forums don't take any additional space, same number of topics will be there. Rather makes it easier for users to find within a forum a particular type of discussion they have in mind. The nice thing with this sub-forum mod, there is also a link to each sub-forum below the main forum's description..... no need to browse.

Example, instead of browsing 1,600 topics in current "Newbie Corner" forum, with sub-forums newbies/users will first view 7 main topic categories (sub-forums in Archie)

.... and then maybe 2-4 sub-sub-categories, and end with a nice number of topics.

In "Desktop Environments" forum (see description) all these could be divided e.g. the configuring X11 is a topic by itself.
"Running/Configuring X11, KDE, GNOME, WindowMaker, and all the other WM/DEs that the open source community has to offer."

It may sound over-done or may not matter current users who are more interesting in latest posts. But helpful for the new users searching a particular sub-subject within a main subject.

But its an extra level of organisation that isnt needed.

With the amount of posts that may relate to a particular wm/de directly that are posted, I would consider it more of a hindrance. its much easier to hit Desktop Environments and see them all at once, rather than having to sort through an extra level of 'organisation' to find them.

I agree. Seems like too much for the forum purposes. Just more to get in the way in my opinion.
Just make a new thread every month for screenshots, and leave it at that..

alright cactus!  there nowt wrong with some open debate!  the poll will finish in a few days, when it does i'll post a new poll which will either be:

if current proposal is supported
thread for each (i.e. current proposal) VS monthly

if current proposal is rejected
single thread (i.e. current situation) VS monthly

that seems fair to me
