Hello
Since I listen to my music from different computers at home, work and with friends I've been looking for a while after a good web based music player which could run from my home web server/NAS.
After looking after a for a while without finding what I was looking for I've decided to develop one myself.
The features I'm looking for in a web based music player is:
- A way to index folders on my web server which contains music and fetch ID3-tags for the tracks.
- A good looking simple UI with the ability to browse the indexed folders in a tree view.
- Add a folder or file from the treeview to a playlist
- Be able to remove tracks and reorder them in the playlist using drag and drop,
- Select and play music from the playlist and automatically jump to the next track when finished with the current.
- A quick search/filter box in the music browser.
- Play the track using HTML5 or Flash.
About the same features as the Pogo Music Player, but web based.
I'm wondering if any project which at least has some some of these features above already exist. And if anyone would be interested if I turn my home project into a real project.
Thanks
// Lazze

Until you show us a working version of your player, I am moving this to Multimedia and Games
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Sure, I wasn't really sure where to put it. Thanks.

Sounds like you should install mpd on your server. That would allow you to access and play music from it in a wide variety of ways, web based or otherwise. Check the wiki for more on mpd

I've tried MPD, and it's good in some cases. But what I know you can't play music through MPD from a website.
Or is there any projects which allows you to play music directly from your MPD server without installing any client on your machine?
I want to be able to just login to a site using my web browser and start listening to my music. Installing a client is no option when I'm at an internet café or at a friends place.

Had no idea web based MPD clients existed, well well, you learn something every day.
I'll see if I find a nice web client using MPD when I get back home.

Have you looked at Sockso?
Haven't heard of it before, I guess there are quite a lot of web based music players out there, it seems like an interesting project though, I might take a look at it.
I've started creating my own web based music player anyway, mostly because I was in need of a project to kill some spare time.

http://www.subsonic.org i highly recommend this if you're looking to stream music from your home computer. I use this at work daily, and its great. There's a package in the AUR for it also.

I ended up making one myself in the end. More info about it this thread https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=113420 if you're interested.

Hi Lazze,
Your web music player looks pretty cool, but if you want tons of features that you don't have to implement yourself, I would also recommend Subsonic
I've been using it for a while, and its amazing! Very easy to set up and use.
