Since last week, whenever I start xterm, I get screen distortions.
I also noticed this behavior with some other programs. Xpdf once caused it when I pressed r (to reload a PDF file) and when I ran an installshield wizard through wine, it also happened.
Closing the process that caused it does not solve this, I need to restart X.
I took some photo's with my phone (because scrot doesn't show all of the distortions. strangely, it does show _some_)
Here is nano running in wterm:
And here is the same nano running in wterm, after I started xterm on a different tab:
As you can see, all the pixels are there, but they are displaced, horizontally and vertically.
I already reinstalled xorg, downgraded xterm to a previous version and I just updated my video drivers.
My video card model is from the ATI RADEON X1200 series.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but I think he posted links to the images, not the images themselves. Google Reader displayed the images, not links, but the post looked OK to me.
True, the pictures were quite big but I don't think they violated the guidelines.
@ x5x_tim
Please wait with reposting the photos until we figure out why Inxsible thinks they were wrong.

I saw the images inline with the thread. They were too huge to fit the image posting guidelines. I downloaded them and checked the size and dimensions in spite of being sure that they won't fit. Also for larger images, an image hosting website is preferred, with the thumbnail given in the thread.
And I am not using Reader

Sorry for posting the large images.
I replaced them with the thumbs.
Now that I've got everybody's attention, any suggestions for my problem?

I had the same issue with the current version of xf86-video-ati (6.14.0-1). I would get xterm distortions, and I got X to segfault a few times. Rolling back to the previous version (6.13.2-2) seems to fix the issues for now.
EDIT: This post provides a workaround that I have not tried yet (disabling ColorTiling), it might be worth trying if you don't feel like downgrading.

Thanks Tom, looks promising. I'm gonna try this one!
