Speed up wicd's connection to wireless ap

Hi,

I'm wondering if there are some way to speed up wicd's connection to my wireless AP?
My wireless network is unsecured. The log is taken from the startup of my machine.

(You can find the full log above)

Here you can see it takes 6 seconds to find out there is no link at eth0 and then another 5 seconds before it starts to connect to my AP

2010/07/24 18:42:51 :: Using wired interface...eth0

2010/07/24 18:43:04 :: trying to automatically connect to...BuddhaBar

So it begins to put the interface down and then up again (?) and it takes about 15 seconds to get a successful DHCP connection.
Thats a long time, isn't it?

Oh, one other note - to compare OSX on the same machine is already connected when i boot up and my android phone uses ~1sec.

Re: Speed up wicd's connection to wireless ap

Did you ever figure this out?
I want wicd to connect before gnome even starts (I use autologin) --- at the moment, I have to wait till I see it's connected before opening a browser.
thanks

Re: Speed up wicd's connection to wireless ap

In /etc/rc.conf file set wicd with '@' then it starts in background.

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus @wicd @alsa netfs crond)

Re: Speed up wicd's connection to wireless ap

I initially tried that, then after seeing your example decided to move my dbus and wicd up a bit.

but that didn't do much neither.

here's my line:

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus @wicd acpid crond netfs cups)

Maybe I'm being silly? I was hoping I'd see the green status bar in the notification area immediately (as if you logged in and logged out).  perhaps that's a bit overzealous...

You don't know what OSX does, so comparing with it is not only strange but inaccurate.
