Hi all,
I have finally updated our forums to FluxBB 1.4.4. The most visible change is the new "Topics" menu on the upper right. Also note that the "Mark all as read" link is now at the bottom. You might need to clear your browser cache (Ctrl+r).
Upstream changes can be found at https://fluxbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5058 Note: I didn't update the search index. Last time this tool about 18h with the forum being down during that time.
Have fun and thanks to the FluxBB devs for listening to our feedback.

Ah, I'm glad you got it done now.
I hope the changes are doing everybody justice and everything is usable again.
Thanks for everybody's contributions - be it comments or suggestions. Feedback is always welcome (though it's much preferable on our forums).

Now I can easily see topics I posted to. Great.
Thanks to everyone involved.

A note for people looking for it.
"mark all topics as read" moved from the top to the bottom of the forum (between forum and footer on the right side).
I use that all the time, and I thought it was removed. nope. just moved!

Took me a while to get used to all new links but they seem to all serve a purpose.
But the "mark all as read" at the bottom, it just does not make any sense why it should not be with the other topic links?

I think it is because most of us scan through the topics first, and doing this we reach the bottom of the page

But then at the end I do a reload because probably a couple of new messages are there and I am at the top again.

I don't think so is the case, many of us open the new topics in tabs and often only browse through the first few posts to see what the tread is all about.
Either way, this forum UI have always been clean and functional , so to split the links that logically fit together don't make sense to me, it's like putting "Logout" or "Profile" at the bottom.
Now I don't think the admins intentionally wanted this in the update, or perhaps they did, I'm only raising the topic because I really like this forum and don't want it to become to bloated or inconsistent. I mean, why change something that have worked well if it does not add anything?

If I recall right, it has been put down there mainly to prevent inadvertent use.
This is only slightly awkward as on many browsers the bottom of the page is just one keystroke away.
To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.

Also, this is not from the Arch devs and or admins. Upstream FluxBB has made the changes and we just use the vanilla FluxBB as they serve it. We do not make any modifications to the code.
So if you are unhappy about something, please report upstream so that the FluxBB devs can incorporate the changes you propose if they agree with them.

@Inxsible, thank you for the reply, since you don't do any changes to vanilla FluxBB then that's all I needed to know.
If i feel to annoyed by it I will report upstream.

QFT, my 2 cents. It just didnt belong to the top, next to the filters.

We moved the "mark all as read" to the bottom for a few reasons:
It's now the same place as the "mark forum as read" link when viewing a forum - this is more consistent.
The links at the top are filters, and this is an action. They don't belong together. (This doesn't necessarily mean it couldn't go at the top separate from the filters.)
We had a few complaints that the top was rather crowded when translated into certain languages. If the link had been left there it would cause them to wrap onto 2 lines on smaller resolutions, which looks ugly.
Because of the nature of the new posts page I think it's more likely users will be at the bottom of the page when finished at the top. Different people have different habits obviously, but I would think this is how the majority of people would work.
Anyway thanks everyone for the feedback regarding the filters etc. Please do let us know if there is anything else that could be improved/fixed.

I have an idea for Active Topics / New Topics / Mark As Read.
Combining the functionality of two torrent aggregators:
-tokyotosho: the "mIRC" red line noting the last time you checked, together with showing all torrents like Active Topics.
-relweb: using the ID of the top most torrent when "marking all as read", in other words, if something new was posted between the last time you F5'd and pressed "Mark all as read", it would not get lost.
I wrote a proof-of-concept script using just page 1 of "Active topics". It has some bugs like when IDs disappear when a thread gets multiple replies in the listing. I didn't write it for actual usage.

NEW, with awk I kind of like this one. This version needs 256 colors for making rows clearer (interchanging white / light yellow), it prints the date, no more lost IDs, and when the screen is wider than 60 columns it should right-align the URLs.
