SpeedTouch 510 setup help!

Hi guys,

i am having problems setting up my Speedtouch 510 ADSL modem/router.i had no problems with the USB modems of Alcatel/Thomson, but this one is different. it connects to my ethernet card and i have no clue how to connect to internet. the modem's IP is set to 10.0.0.138 & mine should be 10.0.0.140 i  read somewhere that i need pptp in order to make it work? did anyone manage to make this thing work. are there packages for pptp? any help will be appreciated.

thanks a lot.

Re: SpeedTouch 510 setup help!

Did you installed the drivers? (pacman -S speedtouch)

Also there is a pptpclient PKGBUILD in AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?d … s=1&ID=287

Re: SpeedTouch 510 setup help!

Those are only for the user-mode USB modem drivers, so that won't work.

Reading the specs it is also a dhcp server, so just use a normal ethernet setup with dhcp. Any ADSL setup needed must be done on the modem, probably through the webinterface.

Re: SpeedTouch 510 setup help!

thanks for your help guys,

here is what i did so far.this is my setup in rc.conf:
eth0 10.0.0.140 netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 10.0.0.138

i installed pptpclient & set up the password in /etc/ppp/*-secrets.

now i can ping 10.0.0.140 & 10.0.0.138. when i try to connect through

pptp 10.0.0.138

it seems fine, but then i have no internet access.

i have no clue how to use the modem as dhcp server.

Re: SpeedTouch 510 setup help!

Your ISP should have information on how you can connect. PPTP isn't used that much, and hopefully you don't need it. Your modem has a webinterface, go to http://10.0.0.138 and configure your ADSL. You don't have to do anything else than connecting to the modem on your Arch pc, the  other configuration must be done on the modem.
