Hi, I'm egroeg. This is my first distro move and so far everything's okay. Arch runs pretty fast on my system. I could get used to this :-)

Hello everyone,
I've been using Ubuntu for two years and have recently installed Arch Linux on my laptop.
I still have lots to do and learn before I get it up and running fully.
I knew that the setup phase would take lots of my time and I would have to say yes it did when compared to the time I would have to spend to install other distro's perhaps. (excluding distro's like gentoo)
But every step was alot of fun and satisfying. One thing that I had to get used to was that every single thing needs to be setup by me in order for it to work, which is exciting since I can customize it however I want to. I hope that eventually, I will like it enough to continue using it. But so far so good.
I look forward to all of you guys teaching me things. I'm VERY teachable.
Also wanted to mention that the archwiki is pretty amazing. It covers every possible thing about arch and it's very comprehensive. Good job guys!

I have been using Ubuntu/Mint for 4 years, and decided to switch to Arch after I realized how much I spent customizing and configuring everything myself through text files and the command line.

Judging from this huge thread it is obvious Arch is an ending point for lots of distrohoppers, which I have been myself for the last couple of years trying Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Suse and Fedora.
Impressed by the wiki. Even though Arch is for advanced users, the documentation is far superior to other distros, making it actually easier to set up.

Got my desktop/server working perfectly already, my htpc is the next one to be converted !

Hi Arch users.

I've been running Arch for a week and I can't be happier with this great OS for my laptop. The DIY approach for noobs given in the Wiki and the fact that it's a rolling release make this Linux distribution the best I've ever tried.

Hola a todos, Hello everyone.

I've been lurking arround for like three months or so but i made my account to tell gogglesguy how much i love gogglesmusicmanager, so now I come here almos daily to see and when something happens I post, it's been 4 years since I installed ubuntu for the first time and i used ubuntu, debian, fedora, mandriva, puppy and pardus but i wanted to try something a little bit harder and not out of the box.
I was afraid to try Arch because there's not so many people i know that uses it and the ones I know said it was for Pros,either way I tried and the begginers guide it's so good i have almost no problems, this is my second install (some bad partitioning xD) and everything went just as i wanted.
Arch is so good i can even use KDE 4 without hating it XD.

I think thats enough for now, but i'll be here for a while

Pd. Also i've got to say that the Arch Community is the most noob friendly i've ever seen.

Hello everyone!

I'm been using Ubuntu as my first Linux distro for about a year and I have recently started to try out different distros, but I newer found anyone that I really liked. And after installing and configuring Arch to my liking I feel that this might be one that I will stick with for a good amount of time

I registered to this forum after a succeful but loong installation PITA mode just because the edition of the xorg.conf file was very complex for me, but now everything is working effing great and I'm happy with the distribution. My main reason for installing Arch was curiosity, hunger for knowledge. And also because I was looking for a better distro for this Pentium 4 notebook.

I ran Arch first about two or three months ago, and because of by newbie 'oh, lets try this and that,' my install got unstable. I'm back using it on VMs though.
I like Arch because it (politely) forces me to learn more about what makes Linux tick.

I installed Arch (with KDE) on my main machine two days ago, after about 2.5 years using Linux every day (Ubuntu/Kubuntu and Fedora). I was finding that my first impulse when things got broken was to start monkeying with the command line and configuration files, which often breaks things on "user friendly" systems like Ubuntu. So I figured it was time to move to a distro that's actually designed to be used this way, and that has more up-to-date software too!

It took another day to sort out all the little quirks (mounting a USB hard drive on boot, ethernet devices switching names, spreading my desktop across dual monitors). But now everything is working and so far I love Arch: fast, stable, and easy to work on. And I'm finally learning the internals of a Linux system in a systematic way.

Hello! Wanting to tinker and learn more about linux, I've installed Arch on my system. I was previously using Ubuntu. I noticed it did silly things like allocate 11GB for swap when I already had a 4GB RAM. It's so nice to be able to configure things so well here. I hope to contribute to the society, although I must admit I know nearly nothing about hardcore programming and am simply a linux enthusiast and hobbyist.

Yes I know what swap is. The Ubuntu installer did that because I just chose default installation without looking into it too much. That wasn't the reason for me to switch. I just mentioned that.

Greetings Archers! I come in peace!
Finally decided to come say hello. I booted up my computer this morning and realized how much i love Arch!! First time user, yes! It barely hurt! haha. I used to use windoze ever since 3.1 when i was just a few cycles old, and then a few years ago i discovered this amazing thing called Linux and my curiosity grew more and more. Then a year ago i discovered Arch, and instantly came to love it. But still, i was afraid to make the switch.. Then one day i decided to finally try it out. And i'm not gonna lie, I had no clue what i was doing and had to follow the AMAZING Arch wiki, and other videos to finally get it to install. And being new to Arch and Linux i felt like i had been put on a desolate island. There was no turning back, my harddrive was formated and i had no choice but to learn. But being an aspiring C programmer i love to learn. And even though i've gone crazy once or twice over missing dependencies i haven't found anything that i don't love about Arch!!
SO! Hello Arch community! I hope my stay is a long one!

Hey everybody. Very excited to be here. I'm very excited to become a part of this community. I only hope that I can contribute as much as I can learn from everyone here. I've been a Ubuntu junkie for a while now but I finally decided that it was time to free myself even further from the chains of a pre-assembled operating system. So far I love Arch and I'm hoping that will only continue to grow over time.

I was for a very long time an Ubuntu Junkie (Since Dapper Drake). Now after seeing what will happen with the Ubuntu Desktop Edition (Unity, everything becomes 3D etc.) I decided to change to my second favorite Distro on the web: ArchLinux.

I was testing ArchLinux on Virtual Machines for a while now, even with a different DE and WM. Now I decided to install it on my physical Device with Gnome as Environment.

I hope I can learn a lot here and perhaps I can even contribute a little bit.

Hi all!

I'm back -- started with Arch again after using Debian for a few years. Updating Debian from Lenny to Squeeze I had some issues - not very serious, only annoying - and at the same time I bought a "new" PC (Dell Optiplex GX520 with a dualcore D820 from Intel). The empty harddisk of this machine tempted me to try out other distro's and one of them was Arch. I had used Arch a few years ago.
The first impressions with Arch Linux on this machine are so good, that I more or less decided to make Arch my main distro again.
Netinstall worked without any problem; I could get X started and installed the SLIM login manager and an LXDE desktop. Then I wanted so see how my hardware was doing, so I installed conky, and made some changes to the default config. This also worked very well.
After that I decided to go for the "lightest" applications; installed the Midory webbrowser, and Claws for e-mail. For music I use Clementine - not a very "light" application, but capable of handling internet-radio, searching for covers and lyrics etc. Now I'm looking for some office applications; maybe I'll need Open Office because I have to read & write MS word- and excel documents from time to time.
My general feeling of Arch Linux is good - I feel that I'm more "in control" than I was with Debian. Maybe it will cost a little more effort to build and maintain my system over time, but I think I can learn a lot from it, and it's worth the effort.

Hi, I am linux user nearly 4 years. I began with some easy go distro (Ubuntu). During that time I felt various stories with it: good and bad. Probably it was fault of my nature: try to be at forward. This of course in most times means that you sacrifice stability. I moved later to openSUSE. Well I moved to arch only few days ago. I hoped that configuration and installation would be bumpy. Now I must say I was wrong. It was quite easy and wiki made me an great impression. System itself is quite stable, only thing that doesn't work is wireless, but it's my fault, I made really little effort to fix it.
Anyway, I will test if the community is so helpful and user-friendly as Arch wiki

Hi there, I installed a few weeks ago, and I've been lurking in the IRC channels since then, helping out people who I could. I installed Arch with GNOME, but at the moment, I'm trying to find the courage to set up dwm, but I'm not sure whether it'll be the best fit for me, even though you can configure everything.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my Arch experience, and the small amount of people I have spoken to in #archlinux have been more than helpful.

Hello all! Used to use Linux as my main OS for three years. Lately I've been using Windows but I wanted to get back into Linux again, and I found Arch. I love the philosophy of Arch and since I'm of intermediate level in Linux, I think it will help me learn more. So, here I am!
