[SOLVED] upnp/dlna-server not found

Hi,

The final bits of my server reinstall are coming together, but it seems there is a problem between the server and my PS3. The server can ping to all the computers in the network and vice versa. I even have NFS and sshd running on the server, and both are working fine.

But ps3mediaserver (pms-svn from AUR) cannot be found by my PS3. I have tried the regular pms and even gave Rygel a shot, but all gave the same symptoms: or the server could not be found, or the server looked empty and after a few seconds, it was gone again.

The software-list installed on the server is not that big: arch64, nfs-server, sshd, rtorrent, moblock, laptop-mode-tools, cpufreq.

I have set the multicast route in /etc/rc.conf:

gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
multicast="-net 239.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 eth0"
ROUTES=(!gateway multicast)

I don't have a firewall configured, but I have moblock installed and running. I also tried turning moblock off, and then # iptables -nL returns:

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination         

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination         

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination

So, that should not be the problem, I suppose...

And, what's more: I cant even connect to the webpage rendered by pms on http://mediaserver:5001/console/home - I'm able to visit the webpage with links on the server, but not from any other device on the network - so I don't think it is related to multicasting...

Does anyone have a clue, pretty please? Thx!
/EDIT - added my DAEMONS-array in /etc/rc.conf:

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng acpid dbus moblock network !avahi-daemon cpufreq laptop-mode crond fam rpcbind nfs-common nfs-server @netfs sshd pms)

Did you change the default /etc/hosts.allow & deny? If nfs and ssh are working then you probably did, but make sure there is no ALL:ALL entry left Also, I am not sure if a multicast route is required, since I have nothing like that and my PS3 can find minidlna just fine

Problem solved - it was (remotely) connected to my /etc/hosts. In the previous version (r412), I had specified 'mediaserver' as my hostname in PMS.conf, but in the new version, this has to be exactly the FQDN that is specified in your /etc/hosts, or you have to fill in your IP-address or leave it blank.

If you have only the hostname without the domain appendix specified, PMS binds itself to the loopback device... This is not an error, and shows up in the debug.log as a unsuspicious notice.

So (for references sake) in your PMS.conf, you don't really need to fill in a 'network_interface', nor 'hostname', except when you're having problems.
