Access Point Query

Hi people. I'm trying to set up my netbook as access point since my android phone doesn't support ad-hoc. The only approach of this for the moment, would be just to make a connection between them without depending on a third device (router, AP).

I've successfully set up hostapd and dhcpd, and my phone can connect correctly to the computer as AP. But my query is: Does my netbook has a ip when configured as AP? I tried to access it via ssh from the phone and I couldn't (I normally can with a third AP) in this case I don't even know which is the IP address of the "netbook AP".

ifconfig doesn't show me any IP configured in the interface wlan0. Should it?

This is the config of dhcpd:

# /etc/dhcpd.conf
default-lease-time 600;
max-lease-time 7200;
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
option broadcast-address 192.168.1.255;
option routers 192.168.1.254;
option domain-name-servers 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2;
option domain-name "mydomain.org";

subnet 192.168.3.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
   range 192.168.3.100 192.168.3.200;
}

Thanks in advance!

Re: Access Point Query

If I understand your question, the answer is:yes.
Whenever you connect a device to a network it has to have an IP in order to send and receive packets in that network.
If you open a CLI on your laptop you should be able to see the laptop's IP using ifconfig.

That's the problem. I did exactly that, but ifconfig doesn't show me any IP configured.
