sparkleshare

http://sparkleshare.org/
anyone running it? what are your experiences?

it looked quite promising, but i have mixed feelings about it.
it's poorly documented and it ran badly for me.
see:

https://github.com/hbons/SparkleShare/issues/80
https://github.com/hbons/SparkleShare/issues/81

but maybe you guys have a better experience?

Re: sparkleshare

I found a similar project in python, with a bit more of a suckless philosohpy attached to it. Called 'dvcs-autosyc', it seems to work better in my early tests.

Re: sparkleshare

Some people have reservations about sparkleshare since it uses mono libraries and also about the fact that it uses git for storing binary files (git storage format is not recommended to have a version control of binary files), although the latter one is minor compared to using mono which is actually MS .Net for Unix systems.

well I would mainly use it to synchronize "simple" files (text files, and maybe some small binary files), So i don't care much about inefficiency, I just want it to work reliably, and I like git.  (in principle, you could use git-annex to support big binary files - http://git-annex.branchable.com/).
And mono.. I also don't like it, but in the end it's just a programming framework.

Re: sparkleshare

i played with the git version from aur. In my experience it has been a bit buggy. However, i have a couple of computers in the house running lubuntu, and it seems pretty stable there. There has just been a new release (.2 stable).
