How to stop pacman from running.

I am trying to use pacman but it says "Pacman is is currently in use, please wait.". I wasn't using it and I did a ctrl-c but it didn't do anything and also I close the terminal but that didn't work enither. I'm not sure what happen becuase I wasn't using it but it says its in use. I need a way to stop pacman from running but I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone help?

You will need to describe your issue accurately.   pacman can not output what you quoted....

Post the command you are using and the exact output.

Maybe you had it running via conky -- those pacman update scripts -- and you were trying to run at the same time via CLI.

However, as Allan said, either you paraphrased pacman's output (it tells you that there is a lock on /var/lib/pacman/db.lck) or you were using a custom script on top of pacman.
