dhcpcd wlan0 timing out only on un-encrypted wireless networks

$ lspci | grep -i net
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82567LF Gigabit Network Connection (rev 03)
$ uname -a
Linux jzbook 2.6.37-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Mar 25 15:10:00 CET 2011 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8800 @ 2.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

I seem to have problems only when I try to connect to un-encrypted wireless
networks. When using profiles (netcfg) I have no problems. I can see, after
setting attributes with `iwconfig` that `iwconfig wlan0` reports "off/any" as
its ESSID. What you can see below is I'm repeatedly trying to set my desired
attributes (the first command-line below) and then immediately trying to
request an IP address, if seems to have stuck (the second command line,
checking the "ESSID" reported by `iwconfig`).

$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 ap '00:21:D8:DE:9C:E0' && sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid 'attwifi'
setting a wifi network... '-a 00:21:D8:DE:9C:E0'
setting a wifi network... 'attwifi'

$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 | grep 'ESSID:.attwifi' && sudo dhcpcd wlan0
wlan0     IEEE 802.11abgn  ESSID:"attwifi"

Note: I'm not using testing. I'm all up-to-date (just ran `pacman -Syu` and still experience this issue).

Re: dhcpcd wlan0 timing out only on un-encrypted wireless networks

Is "00:21:d8:de:9c:e0" your AP? So, why is it you invoke dhcpcd before you get associated with it? I mean, the reason why dhcp times out is because NIC associates and then disassociates with the AP...

FWIW, I have the same card (and kernel), and encrypted/unencrypted networks work fine, so I would say, there is a problem somewhere outside your installation.

On a minor note, the line

Mar 26 19:02:37 localhost load-modules.sh: 'platform:regulatory' is not a valid module or alias name

raises a red flag. AFAIK iwlagn already knows about domain regulations (at least in the US)... You might need extra/crda, but I have no experience with it, unfortunately.

Arch Linux is more than just GNU/Linux -- it's an adventure
