I am on another computer typing this. I cannot connect to my wireless. When I right-click on the networkmanager icon the wireless and wired network buttons are grayed out. When I type dmesg | tail it says ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready. I type lspci | grep -i wireless and I get: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2427 Wireless Network Adaptor (PCI-Express_ (rev 01)
I can't connect to the wireless so I can't update my Arch Linux . Can anybody help me?

Have you tried connecting manually?

Long shot: some other members with Atheros cards have reported that unloading and then reloading the module helps...

I can definitely scan networks but I can't connect to any of them.

Please help us to help you by providing details: "I can't connect to any of them" doesn't provide any useful information...

Did you try unloading and reloading the module?

Okay. My networkmanager icon in xfce shows scanned wireless networks fine. dmesg says my ethernet and wireless cards are "link not ready". When I right click the networkmanager icon the checked "Wireless Network" and "Wired Network" menu items are greyed out and I cannot disable the wired/wireless network. It is very perplexing since I can see the networks but I can't connect to them. All I get is an eery "link is not ready". I cannot update my Arch Linux kernel since I can't connect to the internet through wired or wireless.

Manually? What do you mean? Through iwconfig?
I have tried reloading the module. No cigar.

I'm really sorry btw. I am using a public computer so it is slow for me to answer and get back.

Manually: as in the process outlined in the wiki page I linked to above - it has the advantage of possibly providing error messages that might narrow down your issue.
If your kernel is an older one, you might want to try this approach: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=95203

Okay. Trying to connect manually I get:
wlan0: authenticated
wlan0: deauthenticated from [MAC] by local choice (reason=3)

I chrooted with Knoppix and pacman -Syu .. Still same problems. No cigar. Surprisingly, it worked fine under Knoppix :s.

Does it work if you connect it to a wired network?
I laugh, yet the joke is on me

Nope .

With a new kernel, according to the wiki, it should work...
Boot into Knoppix and check what modules/ firmware etc is being loaded - then make sure that you have the same setup in Arch.
