I've got the strangest problem with my Acer Aspire One 532h-2268. My netbook can see nearly every computer in the house, but they can't see my netbook unless it is constantly pinging them. My netbook is the only one running Arch and all of the rest are running Windows. I've tried disabling the Windows firewalls and that didn't work. I still get the "Destination Host Unreachable" from Windows. But if I try pinging the same computer from my netbook everything works. If my netbook is still pinging the Windows machines, they can ping my netbook and don't get any errors. All my pings are being done by typing in the other computer's IP manually, and both are using static IPs.

Tell us about your network. Is it a router? A wireless Router?
You are using class C private network addresses, so I assume there is a dsl modem or a cable box somewhere. I think the problem lies with your router.
Oh, are you using DHCP or static addresses? If DHCP, is the server in the router?
You might want to look into Avahi or some other network auto-discovery / configuration tools for Arch.

I have a wireless router; It's a Cisco Linksys E3000 router.
I think I am somewhat using dhcp. The dhcp server is indeed in the router. The cable box shouldn't be a problem, as it only feeds one ethernet cord into the router.

Configures a static value. If you set ip_address then dhcpcd will not attempt to obtain a lease and just use the value for the
address with an infinite lease time.
Here is an example which configures a static address, routes and dns.

eth0Your machine is using an address not assigned by the router. It looks like the router does not remember how to find you for very long after it processes your ICMP packets from the ping. Try removing the static IP assignment and let the router assign one to you. It may remember you.

I recently tried running
sudo pkill dhcpcd; sleep 5; sudo dhcpcd;And it looks like it's still not working.
I'm really starting to think that it is 100% the router. Also, I forgot to mention a strange occurance when I plug in the Ethernet cord and acquire an ip through there too... all of a sudden, both ips work. weird... but I don't want to have to plug into the wall every single time I'm doing work on another computer.

I ran into this problem about a year ago. It only happened with the router at my student house, not with the one at my home and only my desktop (rt61pci) and not my netbook eee1005ha (ralink something).
So I think the problem was/is a mixture between the router and wireless card. The problem did disappear mostly with later kernels and now it just needs a quick ping and it will appear on the network shortly after.
