[SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

Just updated to the new Skype beta (64 bit, multilib) and it crashes constantly. I can run it but after a few moments running it crashes/closes.

[af@andre ~]$ export QT_PLUGIN_PATH=$QT_PLUGIN_PATH:/opt/lib32/usr/lib/qt/plugins
[af@andre ~]$ skype
Disconnect (SIGABRT)

Anybody else getting this?

EDIT: New update of Skype fixed the crashing issues.

Getting the same issue. Down and upgraded again, with no luck.

Running skype through terminal only gives "Aborted". Abort my ass, you scarce output!

edit: also seems that the new version is messing with the config files a little. After downgrade my password for autologin is "invalid".

Re: [SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

Running 64bit as well without crashes but the audio was very staticy when using Pulse. If I kill pulse and force skype to use alsa, using the tutorial at the bottom of the skype page on the wiki, it works fine but my Minecraft audio stopped working. Downgrading to 2.1 fixed my problem though I would like to use the new features.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

I suppose that the reason is not in Skype, but in yesterday update. I used new version of 64 bit Skype before this update without any problem.

I have two laptops with arch64. Both do not have pulseaudio. Both use alsa. I have no problem with Skype on my job laptop, but it crashes on my private laptop. Laptops are similar, but have different sets of packages. I will compare last updates on the laptops on evening. Perhaps, it will show problematic package.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

ok i found a "solution" .. i deleted the sounds file in /usr/share/skype/ and logged in again.. now everything works.. It's dumb from skype team to make the program abort for an audio file.. :-°

After logging in again.. it does the same crap.. even without the sound..

i enter password for skype it connects.. 3 seconds after.. it crashes..

EDIT :

And now it works again.. :-°°

Re: [SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

The only issue I found was that it isn't recognizing my mic. I will try deleting my ~/.Skype and see if that helps.

I have to start skype 3 or 4 times before it finally runs without crashing after 5 seconds...

Re: [SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

Login and chat are working fine here on a 64bit machine, haven't tried live voice/video calls yet but I suppose they should work (skype plays sounds fine and webcam test works fine as before). I'm using pulseaudio.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

it is crashing in 32 bit version also. Only message from command line starting and crash is "Aborted".

strace shows

clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, {868, 555502668}) = 0
poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=7, events=POLLIN}, {fd=10, events=POLLIN}], 3, 99 <unfinished ...>
+++ killed by SIGABRT +++
Aborted

I just installed pulseaudio and now skype is stable. but it is an optional dependency for skype. (Internal mic is not working)

Re: [SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

I thought it was running fine here for a while ... then it caused a kernel oops (null pointer dereference) in snd_hda_intel.  Now, after I've tried to quit, it's stuck as a zombie process, and the icon is frozen in my system tray.  This is with ALSA, not PulseAudio.

FWIW, the exact same thing is happening for me on Gentoo (x86_64)... this was the only place that came up after googling for 'skype linux crashes after a few seconds'...

For me it's running absolutely flawless, no problems at all.
I'm fully up to date, x86_64.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

I upgraded yesterday to multilib/skype 2.2.0.25-1 on a fully up-to-date 64 bits system. When restarting skype this morning, the login window works like normal but it crashes when the skype main window opens. I would be surprised if it has to do with the sound system.

Looking at /var/log/messages.log I notice this message:

Apr 12 09:44:12 localhost kernel: process `skype' is using obsolete setsockopt SO_BSDCOMPAT

Downgraded to package skype (2.2.0.25-1 => 2.1.0.81-5.1) and that works fine for now (as it did before).

The error message quoted above is apparently not related to the newer version: it's also in messages.log when I restart my system and start skype 2.1.0.81-5.1, and has been written into messages.log since summer last year when I started using this laptop (ASUS UL30A)

Yeah, guys, grab skype-2.1.0.81-5.1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz from some ftp server and install it instead of 2.2
