Gnome3 + default applications

I just installed the new gnome3 and I can't figure out why I can't select default browser and why VLC is not listed in video players.

Re: Gnome3 + default applications

I had a problem yesterday trying to get it to recognise Firefox because all it had was Epiphany... Found out after i UNinstalled the firefox4 from AUR and installed Firefox 4 from .... [extra] I believe.... (pacman -S firefox) that's when it showed up.  Probably had something to do with the name or some random installation issue, I dunno.

Just a thought.  Dunno if it will help your situation at all. smile

Re: Gnome3 + default applications

@ The Unabeefer it has to do with the default mime handler. firefox.desktop has the appropriate handlers

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Gnome3 + default applications

Any idea why gedit tries to open links? There are no handlers in /usr/share/applications/gedit.desktop

Re: Gnome3 + default applications

Removing ~/.local fixed it.

Re: Gnome3 + default applications

1+ year since last post but that worked for me too. I had the same problem and also settings window every time i tried to change a default application (from vlc to mplayer for example) crashed.

Do a pacman -Syu to your brain regularly
