As far as I also have again met kded4 eating CPU, I have removed {SOLVED] prefix.

I had this problem back before upgrading to 14 and I still have this problem after downgrading to 1:13.
To reproduce, simply disconnect/reconnect adsl connection (no networkmanager or any gui network configuation thing intalled).

Any ideas? 1:13 doesn't fix this for me.

I have this issue, but the following works very well as a workaround after resuming from suspend:

# killall -KILL kded4
# kded4

Killing kded4 obviously has an effect on KDE, so it's important to start it again. Everything seems to go back to normal. I'm still hoping for a proper solution, though...

kded4 running normal here, but there's 1 thing that's likely different on my system :

I still have hal installed .

(i know it's supposed not to be needed anymore, but i often get weird graphics artefacts / X crashes with some opengl apps when i remove hal).

Yeah, I still have HAL running too, because CUPS still seems to need it, and if you say kded4 is working fine for you, I think we can discount HAL.

Hmm, I have and use CUPS, but I dont have HAL. I'd say you can get rid of HAL.

I wouldn't be surprised. It's just that my printer is currently set up using hal-cups-utils. I'm not sure how well it'll work without it, but it could well be fine. It's a matter of getting around to checking it out.

kded4 only runs amok on me when im running GNOME-Shell, with a default KDE Session using Plasma, everything works fine

I also have this problem (on 64bit). I removed hal and am using ntrack 1:13-1 but it still happens.
Now alsa doesn't save my sound levels anymore, is it because i removed hal ?
Also some apps take forever to load. I click on dolphin and 3 minutes later it opens. After it's open it runs fine without any slowdowns, is this related to the bug ?

I have the same problem with kded4 on i686. I've noticed that when kded4 is eating cpu my keyboard layout switcher isn't working properly. Usually KDE has one layout for one window and new windows are with default layout. but now (when this bug is appearing) layout switches just globally.

And KDE 4.6.2 takes more RAM after startup. 4.6.1 eats about 250 Mb, and 4.6.2 about 300 Mb.

BTW I have also Gentoo installed with all new stuff such KDE 4.6.2. And there is not any bugs with kded4 and 4.6.1 And almost no difference when switching between 4.6.1 and 4.6.2 - everytime it takes about 290 mb after startup

As far as I can tell, most things to do with input events, tray icons, and probably a lot of other stuff doesn't work when kded4 is stuck. If you kill it and restart it, it should all go back to normal.

Hi there, I don't know if my problem is the same of yours, but all is fine, when suddenly plasma desktop freezes. I can't do anything, even the Ctrl+Alt+F2 hotkey doesn't work. It always happens when I'm playing something, music or video; It has been happening one week ago. I have the system updated too.

Kernetrox, are you able to interact with widgets and panel, for example the KDE Menu? If so, open Konsole and type the commands I quoted in comment #31 above. If it's the same problem, that will temporarily fix it, until it happens again next time. For me, it usually happens when I resume from suspend.

Sadly, this is a little moot for me now, as my laptop died yesterday evening Fortunately, the hard disk is OK and booting fine in a computer at work.

Hi giddie, sorry for your laptop

No, I start to think that my problem is different... because all is fine, but suddenly the music (It always has happened while I'm listening to music in Amarok or playing a video in VLC). I can't do anything, the music stops, the mouse doesn't respond (neither the keyboard). I have to shutoff my laptop with the power button.

One week ago all was right, I have no idea what's going on xD, maybe there is a memory leak with one process

I thought this stopped happening for a while but I'm experiencing the same thing again.
Shutdown & sleep doesn't work, apps don't close and take a huge amount of time to load ....what the heck ? Did anyone fix this ?

I'm having this problem too. It happens when I plug in my netbook to a power supply. If I login while I'm in battery, this doesn't happen. I'm running all the latest packages.

I also had this problem with kded4 using 100% of CPU Power after resuming from standby.

Downgrading ntrack to Version 009-1 solved that issuse. I had that version in my Pacman cache.

Anyway there is already a patch for this issue in a bugtracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ntrack/+bug/755608
ntrack keeps hanging in an endless loop while searching for an non existing item in a cycle linked list.

I hope this patch will be applied as soon as possible.
