Openbox --reconfigure does not work

Hi, I installed Arch linux and Openbox. It does not work with command openbox but it works with startx because I added the exec openbox-session xinitrc.I changed menu.xml and I have to run openbox --reconfigure but it does not work.It says "Failed to open the display from the DISPLAY environment". It says the same thing when I execute openbox command. But It's ok with startx like I said.

Is there anyone who has an idea?

Thanks,
Alp.

Re: Openbox --reconfigure does not work

You're supposed to use

openbox --reconfigure

inside a running openbox session?

Re: Openbox --reconfigure does not work

smile You're right. It worked in gnome terminal on openbox, thank you.

Will i need to start openbox with openbox command instead of startx in some cases? If not I will leave it with its error smile It works well .

Re: Openbox --reconfigure does not work

startx actually just invokes whatever WM you want in ~/.xinitrc. so if you have ck-launch-session dbus-launch openbox-session listed in your .xinitrc, it will start openbox session.

Please go through the wiki and read more about xinitrc and startx and xorg in general to get a deeper understanding about the topic.
