ok 1 says it helps one says it doesn't help
next try, why not trying rebuilding qt?
So now ppl with kwin crashes please try rebuilding qt.
Thanks.
perhaps something is really wrong with that.
oh yes and would you please post the md5sum of your packages?
i need md5sum from kdelibs-1 kdebase-1 and qt-8, to ensure that we all use the same packages.
greetings

Hello tpowa,
I am a bit new to Arch so it took me some time to figure out all dependencies and "abs" as well when it comes to rebuilding things but I finally managed. I started rebuilding kdebase but it actually failed to finish. I got an error when building taskbar (ld returned 1 exit status). I will continue working on this during the weekend.

Hi Pholie and thanks for the run-through.
I did exactly what you did in steps 1-5.
I am also running the same version of qt as you are.
I will try this again but the thing is that I am running my Arch in vmware (so far). Once I get that running vmware hogs the host computer so it becomes unresponsive which interferes with my work. I will try this again tonight or sometime this weekend.

Well, Kwin doesn't crash here... so it might have something to do with a particular configuration (though, it has been reported that it happens with a new user too).
I only get a kicker crash on logout, but that doesn't bother me.
New idea:
When I've reported some xcmpmgr kwin bugs some time ago, I was suggested to try different a different win-decoration / win-style. This did reveal some bugs in the default style.
Try changing these. It might help isolating the problem.
P.S. I use style:Lipstik + windeco: SmoothBlend.

i'll run plastik style without any crash on login nor on logout.
can you give me your md5sum of qt-8 kdelibs-1 kdebase-1 please then i can compare them to mine

tpowa, do you run plastik for both style and windecoration?
I believe this bug might have something to do with the windecorations only.. not sure though.

Marko sorry to say that but there are plenty of kde users that have no problem at all, i don't know what's wrong on your pc or with the others who have problems.
You could try to rebuild kdelibs, kdebase then it should work, if not then it's probably qt or your pc i really don't know.
Please try to rebuild the packages, else we don'T know what package is the one that causes the problem.
The ppl who used Testing didn't report anything bad and i got 10 positive feedbacks on first day that the packages work.
AND WHY NOONE POSTS HIS MD5SUMS OF HIS KDE/QT PACKAGES???

First tpowa made an great job!
I thinks that kde, gnome or something must stay longer in testing!!!
Yes i think so, too. But this is an global problem, some Programs (kde, gnome, alsa, ....) need more testing time. but look for the kde team, a long betatest and kicker crashs on logout
now i rebuild qt, kdebase and kdelibs, hope it finished this weekend

ok Pholies is out, problem solved, he had installed additional kde stuff not from the repos.
I ask you now again, are you sure you don't have installed anything beside kde, which is not in the official repos???
post it to the other thread, thanks

I have knemo installed, as well as Krusader, but I experience no crashes at all. 3.4.1 is rock solid here.

updated qt and kdelibs are in testing, they are gcc4 rebuilds+added 2 ne patches to qt from kdebranch, problem with missing styles should be fixed with newkdelibs rebuild, if you already used new qt from testing.
