Hi,
I don't really know how to explain this. Somethimes, in some situations, my mouse clicks registers twice. Like sometimes I can't minimize an applicatireaon by clicking on the taskbar entry, because the click registers twice and the application minimizes but right after that restores too. It happens with both right and left mouse buttons. Sometimes can't bring up the rigth click menu in thunar, because it appears and right after that disappears, but if I rigth click elsewhere,in an another application, it works. So it happens only with certain elements of the gui, it isn't that everywhere I click, it counts twice, only with a specific menu, or with the taskbar, or with an icon on my desktop - but can drive me crazy.
With equinox gtk engine it happens more often than with clearlooks engine
I observed this behavior with Linux Mint Debian Edition and with openSUSE with certain themes, and now with Arch. I don't think it is a hardware error, because it appears only with some elements of the desktop, not everywhere everytime, I don't think my mouse knows that I want to minimize firefox and decides to mailfunction just to drive me crazy ![]()
Does anybody else observed this? Has anybody an idea how can I fix it?
I use Xfce, but when I tried LMDE, I used Gnome, my apps are up to date, the mouse is a A4tech G6.

I've not seen it, and I've no solution. You might try pulling up xev, click on it's target a few time and take look at the events that are captured and posted; there might be some pearls in there. Also, look through /var/log/Xorg.0.log and see if there is any wierdness around the mouse / touchpad / joystick sections.
You said 'mouse'. Is this a mouse, or something acting like a mouse (touchpad, trackball). Any special make and model? Wireless?
edit: I did not read your last line ![]()

Everything seems ok in Xorg.0.log, and I can't really debug because the buggy behavior happens only with some elements of the gui, for example I cant bring the Applications menu, because my single click is registered as double click and shows, but instantly hides the menu too, but I can click normally everywhere else. It is not desktop specific ( observed under gnome and xfce ), not xorg or kernel specific because LMDE, openSUSE and Arch use different versions, can be gtk2 specific or a bug in the nvidia driver.

Try with another mouse... (means: I think it's a hardware problem.)
Edit: oh wait, both mouse buttons? Maybe it's not the buttons then... :] Still looks like a hardware problem because it doesn't make sense to me

I have the same behavior along with an additional clause that sometimes mouse clicks will not register at all.
I am using i3...so I do not think its DE/WM specific. Been looking at xev...but it doesn't show up anything.
Here's my Xorg.0.log, no errors as such, some information about using evdev for the mouse at the very end. ![]()

I have that as well. It started couple of days ago. Observable in dolphin (everything I click gets double-opened), gimp, gwenview. It doesn't happen always, though. Still trying to figure out what might be triggering this behaviour.

Problem still persists and its getting annoying by the minute.
Anything we can try here?

Same thing here, just showed up a couple days ago. My issue is right clicking in some GUI's --but not it others-- isntantly hides the menu. Annoying as hell, but my temporary solution has been to keep the right mouse button pressed while selecting something from the menu. Any insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm running Openbox.

johan, are you saying that you do not have a problem with the left click then?
For me, some left clicks are registered twice and at other times the left clicks are not registered at all. Same for the right click (although I have noticed it less in right clicks since I don't use them often as I use a tiling wm).

Well there is a problem when I bring my laptop around and am using the touchpad because I am unable to keep the botton pressed with two fingers and then move with one so the top selection of the menu just gets picked before I even have a chance to see it. For now I have to have my laptop connected with external mouse and keyboard to bypass the problem for now.
I would say that yes, it is a problem; however, not quite as severe as you guys mention. Also, I was able to determine so far that this occurs in both of my terminal emulators Sakura, and LXterminal.

Add chromium, leafpad and thunar to the applications I am experiencing the ever elusive right click menu with.

yeah I don't think its application specific. It occurs for me even in the WM (i3).

bizarre... leafpad and chromium no longer do this after a reboot. Thunar and the rest still do. It's extremely tempermental for me right now. Don't know what to make of it.
