Can't find any config files that need to be updated but I could have missed something. I can see the networks but when I click on them nothing happens.

1st - Don't wait a month to update your system
2nd - Check if you have any pacnews/pacsaves files that you might have to merge.

I couldn't find any config flies to update. I waited so long because I had exams and couldn't afford to have the wireless break, which it did last time I updated too.

fixed it. Had to go back 2 versions of consolekit

Unless you want to freeze consolekit, have a look at the forum/bugtracker about consolekit breaking local authorisation (e.g. FS#21391) - it got fixed, but maybe something went wrong in your update.
Unrelated to consolekit, but recent problems with atheros chips (don't think the patch landed yet):
