I've been kind of wanting an actual project to start working on to help improve my programming, and was thinking it'd be neat if it were something not only I was interested in, but perhaps something others would like to see and use as well. Didn't see a previous thread like this, so thought it'd be cool to have a thread where people could kind of make posts of apps they'd like to see, and people could regularly scan this thread and help jump-start a project if they so wish.
So, without further ado, here are my ideas so far
- A simple blog engine for personal websites (simplicity being the goal here.. just what you need to get started, and not trying to be full featured or anything like wordpress, etc.)
- A web framework similar to redmine that would tie in various types of software such as bug and issue trackers, forums and wikis, stuff that open-source projects tend to use in their web presence.

Or even something more generic for project management in general. If one is to look at this list:

Nearly everything full featured is for software design. The few that aren't that are worth consideration, like project.net, are tied to databases with questionable licenses (Oracle in that case). If designed well, is cross platform, and can provide business management teams with flexible tools, this is the kind of project that can generate a significant amount of revenue.

since this thread is only about generating ideas, I believe it belongs in GNU/Linux Discussion rather than in Community Contribs. Once someone picks up an idea, and delivers something substantial, they can create a thread in Community Contribs later.
Moving...
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116060 is somewhat similar.

Re Project Management:
OpenAtrium looks nice, is quite customizable and can be used for all kind of project management (actually it is used in the white house ). Modular, so you can add new functionality as "features" - but Drupal, so rather specific in terms of programming.

If you haven't checked out project.net before, it may be worth a look. From what I can tell from the information that I've seen so far, project.net is hundreds of times more powerful that Open Atrium and would fit into a Windows based company far more naturally.
