This is the official thread of the Arch Homer Madness! Nominations!
* It's that time again, to push the boundaries of what defines procrastination. Some of the trusted users (td123 & falconindy) are willing to listen to the community for package nominations from the AUR to the [community] repository.
* To vote, post the package names, and a brief explanation of why they should be included. Only comments made on the BBS thread will be considered. Make sure that the packages you nominate follows the guidelines [1].
* The reason you give is the main criteria for getting packages into [community]. So nominations with the most votes will not be guaranteed to be taken in.
* At least 1 package will be added, but expect more to get included. You will be able to nominate packages until May 31st 23:59:59 UTC time.
MUST FOLLOW TO BE CONSIDERED:
Package nominations from the AUR MUST have a good reason attached to them.
gnome2 packages not allowed
NOTE TO TRUSTED USERS:
You can bring in the package as soon as you want to [community]. You don't have to wait until the deadline for nominations. Please leave a quick, courteous reply to the aur package maintainer asking them if you can bring their package into community. Something along the lines of "Hi, I am interested in bringing this package into [community], what do you think?"
Have fun!

sxiv: imho, the best image viewer.
acpid2: should eventually replace acpid.
bleachbit: useful for deleting flash cookies, caches, and other cruft.

nagios-nrpe
Pretty much essential for monitoring any machine with Nagios.
amanda
1) TU can make a split PKGBUILD for -server and -client. AUR can't.
2) It's a bit of a bastard to build (required root privs if the amanda user/group doesn't already exist)
3) Common *nix backup utility.

pangzero: awesome game

galculator
Because it's a good (popular) calculator and "pacman -Ss calc" doesn't return anything for Xfce/Gtk2.
Edit: And mingetty since it's recommended for automatic logins.

sxiv: imho, the best image viewer.
I second this, it's a great little image viewer from one of our own, it deserves a place next to feh in [extra].
Together with:
imlibsetroot - a root backgrond (wallpaper) setter with support for image scaling and xinerama.
Since together with sxiv it becomes a complete feh replacement.

Why didn't I think of that... I tried to pacman -S it just last night!

# aur/minecraft-server
+ Very popular game, works very fine on arch and with the openjdk6 package.
And i really prefer running it in Arch, for simplicitys sake
I think it is a strong game/server to have in the offical repo.

Arch Linux - rolling release distro, where people are wanting to downgrade to a previous version
downgrade - I'm not sure if it makes sense to make it an official package (it's a bash script), but it's a great little app for ... downgrading :-)
dvtm - ti's like dwm but for the console! It's a dynamic virtual terminal manager for those who don't need (or don't understand ;P) tmux.
lrzip - a compression tool (suite?): for bigger packages it's usually both faster and compresses better than xz (but uses more memory).
mingetty - because agetty is such a space hog ;-) and doesn't allow automatic logins.
rmlint - Tool to remove duplicates and other lint, being much faster than fdupes.
nethogs - A net top tool which displays traffic used per process instead of per IP or interface.
xnviewmp - It's a multiplatform (hence the 'mp') version of xnview - a featurefull image viewer, browser and converter. (License: unknown ...)

I too vote for galculator, its very neat and have very few dependencies. And a calc app should be included in a standard set up.

You can use bc & calc :-)
No to mention xorg-xcalc.

google-talkplugin - Great alternative to skype and works pretty well. The video quality is usually better than skype's. In addition none of the IM clients (empathy/pidgin) on the linux desktop support gtalk video/audio as well as this plugin.

Or just bash (& echo) perhaps, i was going to say, but my syntax fails: http://i.imgur.com/UCvqa.jpg
Though i think it is doable, if i just were more hacky and less tired

Darn it, i had a feeling it was those damned paranthesis i lacked (and the logic to use them)
I blame my lack of multitask-thinking.

ck4up: small and fast utility that can monitor website changes based on regular expressions, e.g. package updates
davmail: very useful if you are forced to use an exchange server and your mail client does not support interacting with it natively
hdapsd: a daemon for hard drive protection against fast movements of the notebook/harddrive (just thinkpads I think)
mimeo: manage mime associations and open files base on these associations or configured regular expressions
physlock: console locking program; really nice replacement for vlock; can fork into background and therefore be used in pm-utils scripts; written by an arch user

mimeo: manage mime associations and open files base on these associations or configured regular expressions
I echo this one - makes mimetype processing tons easier for lightweight systems (and reduces the file browser-specific options needed).
To add on to that - xdg-utils-mime is the perfect compliment since some apps (for example Firefox) default to using xdg-utils anyway. Its replaces xdg-utils but since its additionally patched (and not just a compile-time option) I think it would maybe qualify (and not break rules)?

BleachBit - The Linux answer to CCleaner. Not only does it clean your trash and temp files but it can also clean extraneous languages not unlike localepurge.
Speedcrunch - A small Qt-based calculator. With gcalctool now being a GTK3 apps, its nice to have alternatives.

alsa-tools
The thing is, the package contains two tools for RME sound cards (hdsp alsa kernel driver) - hdspmixer and hdspconf. Without the first one it's just impossible to use RME sound cards at all. Without any exaggeration.
fbxkb
I have not found another standalone (I mean beyond DE/Panel/...) keyboard systray indicator. Sorry, if my search wasn't sufficiently thorough.

Also ++ for speedcrunch and nethogs.

According to the maintainer, the game is unmaintained upstream which is why he doesn't want to bring it into [community]
