Wine 64-bit works just fine running 64-bit windows apps (which is what its MEANT to do). Most windows apps are 32-bit though...

And there begins the great catch-22 of the windows emulation layer and windows developers waiting to release 64 bit versions of programs until they can be sure people will pay for them. Companies with an easy sell like matlab seem to be the first on board because there are obvious benefits, but microsoft can't even get around to 64 bit visual studio, etc yet, so why should anybody else.
Time to stop before the pro open source rant gets rolling
