Openbox: freeze with xfce4 terminal and gnome-terminal

I'm experiencing freezes with Openbox 3.4.11.2 when running xfce4 terminal and gnome3 terminal. I run a minimal session - only openbox, avant-window-navigator, nitrogen and thunar, composition is enabled with xcompmgr. My PC freezes as soon as I open either of the terminals and resize it several times, very quickly.
* I'm running nvidia 270.41.06-1.
* kernel is 2.6.38.5-1
* xorg-server 1.10.1-1
* This problem happens only in openbox.
* It doesn't happen in fluxbox (though in fluxbox composition is not enabled).
* I doesn't happen in XFCE with composition enabled.

Is anyone experiencing freezing in openbox?

Re: Openbox: freeze with xfce4 terminal and gnome-terminal

Im experiencing the same roblems, firts with Gnome Shell, and now with Openbox (my emergency desktop big_smile)

I can use the windows I was using when the system freezes, so I'm writting this post and using other firefox tabs, but I can't use the LXDE menu, or minimize the window. A minute before, when I was using Gnome3 I found a thread where somebody says it's an issue with libcanberra-gtk3, but now I can't find that post. This is a serious issue, if somebody finds some util information, please report a bug.

Re: Openbox: freeze with xfce4 terminal and gnome-terminal

I have the same issues. Configuration: Openbox  3.4.11.2, nvidia nvidia-270.41.06-1, xorg-server 1.10.1-1 and xcompmgr.
As with stolowski, X freezes when I resizes several times different terminals. The problem occurs with urxvt, lxterminal and lilyterm. No problem with xterm.

The problem seems related to transparency (both pseudo and true transparency).

In urxvt, the problem disappear if I disable true transparency. It disappear  with lxterminal and lilyterm if I do not run xcompmgr and disable pseudo transparency. I tried dcompmgr (dana) from AUR, but it give the same problems.

Re: Openbox: freeze with xfce4 terminal and gnome-terminal

I did reinstall the hole system but the issues continued!!!

In my case the problem was the mouse. Yes, I was using a logitech mouse witch Linux driver seems to malfunction. Now I am using a generic mouse withouts problem, and every time I plug in the Logitech mouse, the problems appears (the same mouse works fine on another PC)

Re: Openbox: freeze with xfce4 terminal and gnome-terminal

Same problem here with kde/kwin and openbox/cairo composite, using nvidia. Disabling compositing in kwin or cairo composite in openbox causes the issue to go away though. I suppose it's time for a bug report if it's X, but it might be nvidia

Re: Openbox: freeze with xfce4 terminal and gnome-terminal

It has been reported even on other chipsets, so i think it is X
