Dell Latitude CPx Xircom pcmcia card problem.

Hi.
I have recently received an old Dell Latitude CPx laptop. i have added to it an old Xircom RealPort CardBus Ethernet 10/100+ Modem 56.
after the installation, when booting, during the start-up of networking, i get the following message:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address
are there any known solutions to this problem?
or will i have to swap Ethernet cards?

thank you in advance

Re: Dell Latitude CPx Xircom pcmcia card problem.

1. Is the card recognized? Run lspci
2. What is the output of ifconfig -a? Does it show up as an interface?
3. Do you have it coming up by default in networking settings?

Re: Dell Latitude CPx Xircom pcmcia card problem.

yes, it is recognized - 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Xircom Cardbus Ethernet 10/100 (rev 03)
it does show up as an interface eth0, but with mac address of 00:00:00:00:00:00, and yes, it is default.

It is different hardware, but what if you force a MAC address a described in this thread ??
