i think phrak is refering more to the bzflag issue than the desktop file issue, with regard to reporting a bug!
Well ... there is nothing wrong with bzflag2 itself. Just pointing out that it is a good example of lazy package maintainers because this one will generate the desktop files for you if you just run one script ... but they can't even do that.
For some other ones I kind of understand because they have to create 1 file with 4 or more lines ... OMG! But bzflag is just running one script.

sorry i was under the mistaken impression we were specifically talking about .desktop files in gnome pkgs. i think my comment about the gnome pkg'ers still stands tho
thanks for clarifying iph
neopus - you should still report a bug for that then!

Okay! :-) And just for the record ... I have left Arch for a while to go to Fedora Core and am not running back to Arch. Such a great distro!

so you're trolling then?
No ... ive been with arch for a long time. My leave was only for like 1 month I think. I just came back to it then I noticed someone posted a complaint that I had about arch from before I left.

the thing I don't get is that
a) this is just a desktop file thing... now I don't use any menu driven WM, so I wouldn't understand really, but aren't the desktop files just some little 10 line text files? why not write one and email it to the maintainer?
for the record, you mentioned gxine didn't have a desktop entry - gxine is in the community repo, and not an official package.

mmm - seems too small an issue to me to get your pants in that much of a twist!

You have a point... The .desktop thing is not a big problem.

Typo? If you meant "now" instead of "not" then that would explain the confusion. ;-)

hehehe,
yeah i thought he meant that also but i was too lazy to post it,
maybe he shows up again and clear the fog...
arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

In the time it took you to package up bzflag2, submit it, and then not understand why they are mad that you didn't follow the procedures right and post here about it, I could create over a hundred icons on my KDE menu, 80 by hand using macros.

I was just saying that COMPARED TO OTHER DISTROS .... the maintainers of Arch packages are too quick to make packages and not care about the proper entries.
Yes I could just post in bug tracker, but the situation is that it happens way too much to post a bug for every instance and HOPE they will add it for other users at a later time. I would much rather take the time to go against the policies and create packages the right way in my own repository because the problem is so wide spread. BTW, repository information is coming soon for people interrested in quality menu enabled packages.

wow. nothing like bagging on the distro, then advertising your own.

the title says "ciris", it should probably say crisis.
And where were all the sportsmen who always pulled you though?

I thought I cleared that typo+following confusion up, but apparently not...
