There are people that don't like the Arch boot logo https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=940787
I never understood that complaint. It becomes too philosophical in my taste. I doubt I will make compile a "custom" kernel just for the Arch-logo, but it for sure looks a lot better, especially when you see a long row of them.

IIRC that means X won't run, but you can boot and see the magnificent logo - only you're kinda stuck in the console.

I guess another option would be opening up a flyspray feature request. The worse that can happen is that you're told "no."
CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck • AUR packages • Zsh and other configs

I believe that the one flyspray report that exists is enough. The devs are pretty busy with tackling the existing bugs than have to spend time on looking at this report which would add nothing substantial to Arch or the computing experience IMO.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Even though the logo is realy nice and fits well on a wallpaper, a clean boot without logos look a lot slimmer. I have often wondered why the hell the logo whas there in the first place.

Even if it isn't the Arch logo there's still a logo. Or penguins don't count?

Well now that the Arch logos have been replaced with penguins I have no excuse left not to switch to Gentoo.
Who we are is but a stepping stone to what we can become.

Hm so it is not a bug but a feature?

Well, this is disappointing. I'm gone from Arch for a few days and the Arch logo goes missing I guess it isn't too big of a deal; I just have to get back to -ck.

If I'm not wrong, chances are that I think I'm using KMS and I'm not, KMS with Intel cards does show the arches. I don't know if it's because I use kernel26-pf from AUR with custom config following gentoo's wiki about KMS.
Best Testing Repo Warning: [testing] means it can eat you hamster, catch fire and you should keep it away from children. And I'm serious here, it's not an April 1st joke.

I am a bit disapointed to see that the arch-logos are gone. especially because I don't like the tux logo.
no big deal

I don't use the ARCH package but thought I'd say I didn't like the idea of patching in logos in the first place (I mean, it's basically vanilla anyway); as with other distros, I'd say you already know what you're using at init (why the extra advert--or is it just eyecandy ). So, [this may sound stupid but] what's the reason behind the boot logos anyway if only a quick way of visual CPU #? That's one of the first things I disable when configuring a kernel.

Pretty sure it's just eye-candy. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you need KMS or the framebuffer enabled at the time the initramfs is first loaded to see them at all.

KMS has to be disabled to see the logo.

I liked the Arch(ers), I get 4 penguins now, but is it just me or has anyone else noted a speed improvement
with kernel 2.6.38.8 ?
I was previously booting to kdm login screen in 24 seconds, now its just 16 seconds

The only thing I have replaced is /etc/rc.conf with the new rc.conf.pacman file.

OK, please someone explain to me what is going on with this logo? I have been using arch since 2009 and never actually saw it, KMS (ati) or not (nvidia-270)...
Arch Linux is more than just GNU/Linux -- it's an adventure

The vanilla kernel has a tux logo http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … ostcount=3 while Arch-branded has Arch logo(s) http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ost4218181 (click the first link).

That arch branding shouldn't have been there in the first place imho!
If one don't want the vanilla tux logo, then you're free to replace it(ABS!), which is the way it's supposed to be with arch i.e. keep packages vanilla and unmodified unless to avoid breakage!
I can understand that ppl dosen't share the "vanilla" philosophy, as they don't have to, as it's a free world and all, but what seriously pisses me off, is when ppl use/join projects which allready has a set strict philosophy, without sharing that same view themselves!!!
Anyway, i'll better hush up, as I don't want to start a flamewar, or get banned or something...

All of that invective for a logo that adds no functionality and is present transiently only at bootup?

@ssri: People getting snippy over something that really doesn't affect them one damn bit might be a good sign: maybe there's nothing serious to bitch about. You know things are in a relatively good state when people complain that the grass is the wrong shade of green.
