need lightweight photo viewer

i need a good photo viewer that will launch in a second when executing a .jpg image

I would like just a couple small features.  If i open that image inside a directory, i want to be able to use the arrows on the keyboard to navigate through the images, and need a zoom feature.  other than that, i dont want albums, photo editing, or anything else bulky.  i can edit my photos with photoshop cs5.  i just need a viewer for arch.

any suggestions?

Re: need lightweight photo viewer

I've used Gpicview for just these purposes for a while now and love it!

I think you will find it hard to improve on this

Viewnior might also be nice if you prefer something with a bit more GUI. I use Mirage myself, which is also nice and lightweight, but does include some of the bulky things you referred to smile

Re: need lightweight photo viewer

thanks, the gpicviewer works good, its nice and lightweight.  the only problem im having with it so far, is i cant scroll through the images, once i open one, using the cursor keys, nor the mouse on the arrows in the image viewers GUI.  what can i do about this?  i would like to be able to open an album directory, and open the first image, then scroll through the rest.

as far as "this" at a first glance i thought you were referring to the gpicviewer, then i realized its a link to another post, my bad. is it feh? ill check that one too. thanks!

I'll be a snob and say that one doesn't "execute" a jpeg image tongue. And fwiw I use mirage with the arrow keys but feh is good too.

When looking for light weight apps, please have a look at the lightweight apps page in the wiki instead of creating threads for every sort of app that you might want to have.

Re: need lightweight photo viewer

Viewnior is my lightweight image viewer of choice. The following...

build() {
  cd ${srcdir}/${pkgname}-${pkgver}

./configure --disable-dependency-tracking --disable-nls --prefix=/usr

  make
  make DESTDIR=${pkgdir} install

  rm -rf ${pkgdir}/usr/share/{icons,locale}
}

...installs at under 190K on disk and launches 5MB images within a second...

Re: need lightweight photo viewer

One of the first apps I install on any Linux system is xv because it's a lightweight image viewer that opens in less than a second. I refuse to ever uninstall it.

Re: need lightweight photo viewer

Gpicview cycles through just fine here using the up and down arrows.
