/src/core/pkg is missing

Im trying to install Arch Linux,
In the installation process, during step one i am selecting the source.
it says 'package directory /src/core/pkg is missing´.

what does that mean?

the installation then fails.

what´s the problem?

are you using the netinstall cd or the core cd? Are you selecting the correct option in the AIF?

how do i find out if im i686 CPU, x86-64 CPU or Dual Architecture?

During the installation, it asks you which type of installation you want, you need to select the netinstall since you are using a netinstall cd. Are you?

As for what architecture your cpu is: tell us what cpu you have and we can tell you. or you can run uname -r

Dual means it has both architectures: 32 and 64-bit.
This image is useful for people who want to install a 32-bit version on some computers and the 64-bit on others.

Check what cpu you have and google it, e.g. Intel Atom 270 is 32-bit:

which means my cpu is Intel Celeron mobile processor 530/540/550 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.73/1.86/2 GHz, 533 MHz FSB)

is that the i686 or x86?
im guessing its x86.

would be great to if one could just put in the type of machine and get that thing back.

i run uname -r and get 2.6.33-ARCH

All these should be able to run 64-bit.

Edit: I think Inxsible meant you could run 'uname -a'. On my computer it shows

[karol@black ~]$ uname -a
Linux black 2.6.39-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 7 05:49:02 UTC 2011 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

It means i686 version is currently installed (this processor can't run 64-bit anyway).

i686 is 32-bit so the other one is 64-bit (and dual means both). It can be written as x86-64, amd64 etc. - the '64' part is important.

You should be able to install 64-bit software on your computer.

i686 and x86 are one and the same thing.

the difference is between x86 and x86_64. Yeah and I meant uname -a. Sorry for the typo.
