Oh! I actually wasn't watching the front page. I concluded that the project was dead since the git repo had no commits for 10 months. If they're really working on a new release, then I guess they've switched to a "cathedral" release style.

emelFM
Simple, highly configurable and easy to use file manager.
Old, but i'm still using a lot.

@soundman - Have you tried emelFM2?
Also I am worried about SMPlayer. There hasn't been an update in a while and I think it may eventually die.

Xsnow; I would keep it on continuously during Winter.
I also miss the original XMMS media player for nostalgic reasons, but Audacious more than satisfies my needs.

Smplayer isn't supported anymore by rvm because of the lack of time;
You can take a look to umplayer, an smplayer fork with some features added, or to xt7-player another mplayer frontend, but not smplayer based.

Yes, but i found unnecessarily complicated. And gui design, very bad.

XeTeX is alive and well, it is part of the TeXLive distro, which is the one packaged for Arch. And really, XeTeX is your only option if you want to use proper UTF-8 input or OpenType fonts.

I felt sorry this project ended, too, so I wrote a replacement program which I
will release this week. Stay tuned and watch the community contributions forum

IMO the death of unison is a hard one.
Because I'm using it to synchronize my repositories and at work we are using it for profile-synchronisation on all Linux clients.
After week of testing it's working like a charm but there are still some feature like socket-exclusion.

Definitely Ratpoison.
Not officially dead but afaik, Stumpwm is Shawn's only baby now.
Same might apply for Evilwm too. Not dead but dying a slow and undeserved death.
Also, someone mentioned Window Maker. I'd love for it to pick up some new devs too. It was my WM of choice for every BSD desktop that I have ever owned.

Apparently it's not so dead according to awagner and the AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=42238

Hmm this had me worried too. This link tells the story
Unison is no longer under active development as a research project. At this point, there is no one whose job it is to add new features, fix bugs, or answer questions.
However, Unison is still widely used, and many readers (including the original developers are all still using Unison daily. It will continue to be maintained and supported for the foreseeable future, and we occasionally release new versions with bug fixes, improvements (sometimes large ones), and contributed patches.
so all is not lost.
Edit: I just saw the date on the quoted post, so it clearly isn't dead yet!

rubyripper is pretty much dead. and sadly with some major bugs which make it nearly unusable.
latest release does not work with latest flac and unicode is broken - makes rubyripper crash) - git is pretty much dead, too...

Yes, that's a shame - I hope it gets picked back up by someone
Mine would be icoutils. It's been dead for years, but I bet more people use it and don't even realise! (It's popular with WINE gamers)

Ratpoison doesn't need updates. It's perfect. (-;
This is also true for evilwm, and its source is so simple it is easy to hack, if you really need new features. Plus if you search you will find so many evilwm-inspired WMs that one of them will probably have the features you want. Check out cwm or mcwm, to start with.
"What dead program would I use if it was less buggy?" musca. I love it, but it has serious bugs that will never be fixed.

Inside, from our very own Community Contributions, is one my favorite dead open-source projects. Evidence of it'ds deadness is the lack of updates to the git-repo and his blog since late last year.
This project is called bazinga - a perl driven nano-blogging utility.
Thankfully I know a bit of perl and have since forked the project and have continued developing it since. My version however will probably never see the light of day since I don't have a particular fondness for the GPL and bazinga's licensing is a bit ambiguous anyhow. (I, may in fact, may not be in violation of the GPL if I were to release it under a new name, new license, etc, since my version is in fact all new code and the only resemblance to the original source is it's method of data retention.)
*shrugs*
As usual, IANAL, but I still felt like I had to post about this great little utility.
If you're reading this; you're awesome.

I wholly agree with this sentiment (if it pertains to the original source project).
But, in any case another purportedly dead project I'd like to like would be perl 6.
