Could you shed some light on how to config xorg.conf to make gnome-shell work?
Currently the graphics is all messed up in my virtualbox.
First you have to install new VirtualBox Guest Aditions, the check /etc/X11/xorg.conf, you must have <Driver "vboxvideo"> in Device section.
I can confirm that Gnome Shell is working smoothly on VirtualBox with Guest Aditions driver
Also works well with official Nvidia driver (The performance issues has been solved)

What host system are you running? It's not working for me on an XP host with VirtualBox 4.0.6 r71416, VBoxGuestAdditions_4.0.6.iso, 3D accel enabled in VirtualBox, and vboxvideo driver in xorg.conf... I'm getting the same error message as Xi0N in #18 when I try to do a "gnome-shell --replace"... Did you do anything else to get it working? Maybe it's just the host system...
