[Ignorant Mistake] Setting up a wlan gateway

In a week I will be moving to a hotel for several weeks, so I want to set up my laptop as a gateway to the hotel wireless, in order to connect a few desktops. I am trying to set up the connection now, in this configuration:
Desktop eth0 --> switch --> laptop eth0 > wlan0 --> wireless router --> DSL
I have followed the wiki on internet sharing by changing the commmands for the gateway from eth0 and eth1 to wlan0 and eth0, but I can't get the desktop to connect to the internet. When I try wicd on it (I would prefer to use wicd), it says it failed because it can't get the IP address. Does it need a different address from what the wiki says? Normally I connect with 192.168.1.10[2-3].
P.S. One of the desktops I need to connect runs >Vista< But of course I wouldn't ask for Windoze help on a Linux forum!

NEVER MIND -- I messed up on the very last step, specifying the nameserver. For some reason I had 192.168.0.1 on the gateway PC.
