I use kde 4.6.1 and when I am on battery and I want to shutdown, system is restarting instead. -
On AC all is ok.
System: Dell 1555/core2duo T6600/ati4570-fgrlx/Arch-x86_64

When you shutdown, are you using the KDE menu or pressing a button on the computer?

Is that a desktop or laptop?

Obviously is about a Dell Laptop.
Behavior is present when I am on battery, not when AC cable is pluged in.
I use kde shut down from kde menu or from desktop.

Did you ever fix this? I am using a Sony VAIO and GNOME but experience the same problem.

Can't say when this started as during term time I normally only run the machine without the battery in.

I have the same problem with a Thinkpad X220 - after shutdown the machine powers up again when running on battery. On AC it stays off. - Any solutions?

Check this thread to see if it helps. I know you guys don't have a problem when on AC, but there might be some pointers in the thread that might help.

I got the same problem, only on battery. Using xfce4. Tried halt, shutdown init 0 etc., but it will always reboot when on battery. It's a thinkpad T420. Did you ever find a solution?

Re: Reboot instead turn off on battery - kde 4.6.1

Disabling runtime-pm in laptop-mode-tools solved the problem for me.  The problem was related to the ehci_hcd kernel module. If I unloaded this module after starting laptop-mode-tools with runtime-pm I was still able to halt. It might be some conflict between laptop-mode-tools and the laptop-mode of pm-utils.
