[SOLVED]BIG problem with xorg and xfce4

Hello!

I'm really a total n00b and I need help...

My problem is:

I have succesfully installed arch linux and I have succesfully got to the 'sound configuration' (I installed alsa and it worked!!)

Then I instaled Xorg and mesa since my VGA is an intel 915GM... until here everythings ok.

I installed xfce4, xfce4-goodies and gdm, and then I configured inittab

    #id:3:initdefault:

    # Boot to X11

    id:5:initdefault:

and

    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/xdm -nodaemon

    x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm -nodaemon

    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon

    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/slim >& /dev/null

The guide I'm following said: "Now, restart and you'll get xfce4 runing >:D"... But it was as always, arch asking me to log in.... please, help!!!

Thanks for the answer!!

I assume you mean auto-login.

Read this again and see if you missed a step:

Perhaps modify /etc/rc.local:  startxfce4

Re: [SOLVED]BIG problem with xorg and xfce4

Didn't know that existed! thanks :D The guide I was following said nearly nothing about this...

Not working for me though, it has to be with xorg (it seems, since when I type 'startx/xinit' it says 'xinit: connection to X server lost'). I think I don't have xterm... don't know what it is, but it seems to be important, because when I try xinit says 'xinit: Unable to run program "xterm": No such file or directory'

Re: [SOLVED]BIG problem with xorg and xfce4

have you created a .xinitrc file under your home directory? What wm/de are you trying to startup in it?

You need to read up on xinitrc in the wiki.
