Hello
I have a HuaWei E1752 that I'm trying to configure to use when I'm away from home. I'm not interested in using NetworkManager as I'm using a basic wpa_supplicant daemon in the background setup for my normal wireless networking. I've searched around quite a bit including listening to a man on youtube talking hungarian and using NetworkManager in Debian. I want to use the old fashioned programs like pppd, cu and wvdial ![]()
Currently, I do not have any ttyUSB* entries in /dev. I've tried running usb_modeswitch with the appliable addresses but it don't have any further affect. I've even tried installing (as root(!)) this lame chinese java program that is avalable on the net for this modem, and even that program complains about not being able to recognize any usable modems.
What am I to do?

What does dmesg tell you after you plug it in? Which idVendor and idProduct is shown by lsusb (-v)?

Do you have the devices now? To me it looks like: /dev/ttyUSB0 is there and ready to use with wvdial. Please check.

Interesting. Maybe usb_modeswitch is causing problems... This combination is shown for the Huawei E169 in /etc/usb_modeswitch.setup:
########################################################
# Huawei E169
#
# Contributor: Dale Lane
DefaultVendor= 0x12d1
DefaultProduct= 0x1001
TargetClass= 0xff
# choose one of these:
DetachStorageOnly=1
HuaweiMode=1So if you really don't have the devices, you could try a modeswitch-file as above and go for HuaweiMode=1.
Else you can find instructions for wvdial and pppd here and here.
First, it has been a terrorist attack near to where I live here in Oslo.
I've seen it in the news, its bad... At least he does not get his public trial... If you want to start a public discussion you don't need a bomb and a gun... Good you survived, i hope your family is well.

Yes, I have them. Seems I can try ppp and wvdial now ![]()

Yeah. I saw the smoke afterwards. Devastating. Never seen such hellish circumstances. I don't think he wants a public discussion ... he has been inside a political greenhouse or something, dunno what that means but. This a bit off-topic, sorry.
