With all the "linux 3.0" hype around, I browsed over to kernel.org and noticed that it reports that v2.6.39.3 is the current stable release, while 3.0 is the "mainline" release. Can someone explain to me what the difference between the two categories might be? Mainline = beta or something that's not quite ready to be called stable?
