Hello dears
I want to install kernel 2.6.37 on my Arch linux because this version of kernel use low battery energy but new versions use many battery energy i added pcie_aspm=force to my grub boot loader but my laptops hangs sometimes!
Can i install gnome 2 on Arch linux because Kde use many energy or can i optimize kde to use low energy? what about gnome 3 ?
and i have problem with my Arch linux after enabling my intel sandy bridge graphic card and disabling my ati graphic card after that i can't adjust my laptop lcd brightness. how can i fix this and reduce my laptop lcd brightness?
please help me...
thanks...

1. http://arm.konnichi.com/search/ <- you can find kernel .37 there.
2. Arch does *not* support Gnome 2. We ship Gnome 3. You can use other DEs, like XFCE if you prefer something lighter.

You have a couple kernels to choose from:
kernel26-2.6.37-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
kernel26-2.6.37-6-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
kernel26-2.6.37.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
kernel26-2.6.37.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
kernel26-2.6.37.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
kernel26-2.6.37.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
kernel26-2.6.37.5-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
What do you mean by "low energy"? Battery drain?
From what I've heard, it can be tricky to get proper power management on Linux so often you get less battery life compared to win7.

if i download the kernel26-2.6.37-6-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz how can i replace it with my new kernel version? pacman -S can do this?
OK battery drain!

I don't know whats your purpose!
Namely linux use many battery vs Win7?

No, 'pacman -S' won't do it. Please read the man page.

Usually yes.

tah_206207 : if you are referring of the increased power / less battery life problems found by phoronix in recent kernels, you need to go back to a kernel before 2.6.35 .
The kernel26-lts package ( 2.6.32 ) would then be the best choice.
You will likely face problems though, as sandybridge is only supported well in the most recent kernels.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Thanks for your inform.
i have question about linux kernel! has linux foundation plan for fix this problem in future linux kernel? because this problem doesn't fix in recently kernel3!!
why win7 use best battery energy but linux can do this?
is Win7 best than linux?

Yes !
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

The change in the kernel that caused it to use more power was made to make the system more stable.
Currently on linux laptops we have 2 choices :
stable system & bad battery life
system hangs often & good battery life
when can we have both a stable system AND good battery life ? unknown
as for windows 7 being better then linux or not :
Both have strong and weak points.
You should compare those and decide which is best FOR YOU .

More generally - laptop battery life is not the only factor to consider when choosing your OS.

Why win7 is stable and use less battery?
The questions is: what do you use your computer for? Can you do it on Windows?
At the moment, Windows generally uses less energy (notebook doesn't run too hot, battery lasts longer) while maintaining a stable system.

i want to use linux on my system but this problem confused me!

Because the world is not a perfect place.
This problem may get fixed in the future, but for now, this is how it is.

try booting from the archlinux installation CD, then perform a chroot as described here :
