VNC vs NX and Questions on NX

I'm looking for a more reliable and controllable replacement for vino VNC server on my xfce4 desktop.

During my search, I read a bit about NX and I'm convinced NX would be a better way to go.

Problem is, the freenx project looks dead http://freenx.berlios.de/ and that makes me want to look elsewhere.

NoMachine NX nxserver 3.5.0-2, is a live project, http://www.nomachine.com/news-read.php?idnews=343, and available in the repos.

I don't see an Arch WIKI entry for NoMachine NX, just freenx. Am I just not finding it?

Would the freenx WIKI info be accurate for NoMachine NX?

Anyone care to comment, VNC vs NX?

Re: VNC vs NX and Questions on NX

NoMachine is very reliable and much better than VNC. I maintain a NX installation with 50+ users and it just works.

Found this:

Try it out.

Very cool. Glad someone with first hand experience commented. Based on 50+ users, I'll assume your maintaining the paid version?
At this point, I believe I'll be giving nxserver 3.5.0-2  a try very soon.

Do you have experience with both VNC and NX as a user? Would you care to comment on the responsiveness difference via WAN? Regarding responsivness, I find VNC next to useless unless limited to LAN.

Thanks for your reply!

freenx can't really be comparted to VNC , vnc is just a remote display layer thingy and NX does much more like caching X

All I can say is what an understatement!!

Installed the free nomachine nx node, client, and  server using the link Ashren provided.  First time ever installing anything in Arch not using pacman.

After a bit of reading and  playing around with it, I must say, very impressive.  This is gonna work out great for some work related stuff.

Thanks again to everyone who replied.
