[SOLVED] virtualbox package dependency

Hi all,

I have the virtualbox package installed and everything is working fine, but after a recent update every time I try to do an update with:

pacman -Syu

I get the error:

warning: cannot resolve "linux-headers", a dependency of "virtualbox"
:: The following package cannot be upgraded due to unresolvable dependencies:
      virtualbox

If I look at the dependencies for the package at http://www.archlinux.org/packages/commu … irtualbox/ I cannot see linux-headers mentioned.

Anyone got an idea on what might be wrong? I haven't been able to find anyone else experiencing this issue.

Thanks a lot!

If you're using testing, everything should be fine: http://www.archlinux.org/packages/commu … irtualbox/

kernel26 version 2.6.39.3-1

Pretty sure it's just the standard kernel.

That makes sense now. I can see I have added the "community-testing" report to pacman.conf. Cannot remember why I did that, but removing it again solves the problem and I prefer to not use testing packages unless I really have to.

Thanks for the help!

Re: [SOLVED] virtualbox package dependency

You need to enable both [testing] and [community-testing] if you're feeling adventurous :-)

Please remember to mark this thread as solved.

Thanks. That explains it. As I mentioned, I'm not really feeling adventurous, so I'll just disable the testing repositories for now.

Reading the form guidelines, it seems like I should prepend [SOLVED] to the thread topic in order to do that. Unfortunately, it seems like the original title was close to the maximum allowed title length so I cannot do that without changing the title name. Maybe that should be reported somewhere? (Off top, sorry).

Hmmm, I think I've had a similar problem once, I'll report it upstream. Thanks for the explanation.

Re: [SOLVED] virtualbox package dependency

[OT]

I've come to the conclusion that 70 chars is not bad and usually it's a matter of rewriting the title by using a shorthand, Plus, the issue has already been solved, so it's not a big deal if the title is less than perfect :-)

I agree. At first, I just thought that [SOLVED] was part of the markup and that changing the title of the thread would mess things up somehow. Silly me. :-)

Doesn't really matter anyway, but thanks for the info and the help in general.
