XFCE problem?

Hello, I have a problem with XFCE. I run a couple of DEs, and all of them work fine, except for XFCE. I've never got it working in this computer, but I just got it recently. I run them manually, I don't have a login manager or anything like that.

This is what a dmesg | grep xfce4-session gets me:

[14316.249283] xfce4-session[17757]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f573233db1f sp 00007fff2fc04600 error 4 in libxfce4util.so.4.1.1[7f5732336000+d000]

This is the only related post I found, and it's in the Ubuntu forums. It's the only thing I found googling.

Any ideas?

Re: XFCE problem?

you could try a couple of things. Uninstall xfce and then delete all residue xfce4 related files/folders in your /home. Then re-install. See if that helps.

That sounds like an awful Windows solution.

Instead, I would create a new user to check for configuration related problems. If that doesn't fix it, your might need to build a debug version of xfce4-session using the files from the official package. Then use gdb to trace the problem. Is the segfault consistently in the same library btw?

I already tried that anyways xD.

Great idea smile. Yes, it is. I don't know what gdb is though but I'll google it up after doing the new user thing.

This should help you use gdb to get a trace:

Thanks smile. I'll do this on monday after my last final. I couldn't get it working with a new user, so probably it's not a configuration problem then?
I also got a different error:

[test@arch-laptop ~]$ dmesg | grep xfce
[ 2077.709396] xfce4-session[10604] general protection ip:7f5315b9c89f sp:7fff1553fc10 error:0 in libglib-2.0.so.0.2800.8[7f5315b3a000+e9000]

I'll be back on monday smile.
