Re: Laptop too quiet

Keep in mind that in alsamixer you have both a Master volume and PCM.

Re: Laptop too quiet

Why would you want to do that? Isn't it loud enough?

Re: Laptop too quiet

I would try the alsamixer and crank up the master and pcm along with some other options and see how things go.

Ahem, I believe they are talking about sound like "music" and "movies" and not the sound the machine makes wink

I know that.. My question was kinda bad.. Should've been something like this: "Why do you think that you can increase your volume more than what alsamixer alows?"

Re: Laptop too quiet

If your sliders are to the max, you can still:
* push your sounds to the max by normalizing them
* get an higher average volume by using audio compressors/limiters.

mplayer comes with support for ladspa plugins, they will definitely helps you to boost your audio while not get any distortion.
take a read here:
http://xt7-player.sourceforge.net/xt7fo … p?f=5&t=10

You can even think of using jackd as your audio server and injects those plugins into it to use them for every sound you'll play.

Re: Laptop too quiet

Try the LADSPA amplifier plug-in (see ladspa-plugins package) in your ALSA configuration, or use [ALSAequal].

Re: Laptop too quiet

I have an integrated HDA Intel card. It is much louder in Windows 7 than in Arch. Why?
Of course I have turned PCM and others to max

Re: Laptop too quiet

Funny how this problem has been persisting for years now, and no one has any clear idea why. ALSA and QUIETER return a huge amount of page hits out there, and I've yet to come across any insight or answers. ALSA is quieter than whatever's driving the card in Windows.

Try basic searching using the site attribute in google :

site:bbs.archlinux.org low volume in Arch

You get a bunch of results, see if anyone has any solutions
