Just installed and able to boot into Arch Linux 2010-05 AMD64

Hi there:

I reinstalled Arch Linux on my First HD.

1. What steps should I take to get a desktop?
2.  Should I upgrade to the latest kernel etc?
3. How do I get NVIDIA drivers?

I wil take a look at the wiki.

Thanks,
Alan

Re: Just installed and able to boot into Arch Linux 2010-05 AMD64

Hi there:

I just followed what was in the wiki and I am stumped.

I tried pacman -Syu and it downloaded a few files, and few servers must be outdated; It asked me for upgrading pacman to version 3.5 which I did.

Now when I use pacman I get this error with out solving which I cannot use pacman

Error pacman: /lib/lib.so.6: versioon 'GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by /lusr/lib/libalpm.so.6)

I cannot use pacman now, How do I resolve this? Shoudl I start all over gain with Archlinux 2011-05?

Thanks,
Alan

Perhaps you can run...pacman-db-upgrade....to upgrade your data base.  Also update your mirrors.

The command above has no spaces .

Re: Just installed and able to boot into Arch Linux 2010-05 AMD64

Hi:

I did do pacman-db-upgrade the first time around. Are you saying it should be pacman-Syu, it does not work. I updated the mirror list. I googled about this error and find that it is a bug in the pacman-dev, I have enabled Testing repo as well. Is there a way to get the old pacman back. ? Any clues, I would like to get this working.

Thanks,
Alan

Re: Just installed and able to boot into Arch Linux 2010-05 AMD64

I tried the IRC chat on irc.freenode.net from Debian, and I get a message stating your message will not be listed on #archlinux. Should I register or something?

Thanks,
alan

Re: Just installed and able to boot into Arch Linux 2010-05 AMD64

same here, I've just installed the exactly version the thread owner use. And pacman doesn't work after pacman -Syu and pacman-db-upgrade. How can I get this fixed ?

Hi Get on irc.freenode.net #archlinux.

They want us to do

wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/cor … pkg.tar.xz and untar it to /

change i686 to either x86_64 or amd64 for 64bit

I have not tried that yet.

Alan

Re: Just installed and able to boot into Arch Linux 2010-05 AMD64

The above thing works, upon doing wget,

do pacman -Sf glibc

then

pacman -Syu, it upgraded, now I have another problem, What should I put in my Grub on Debian for it boot? What verson of the kernel is the latest?

Thanks,
Alan

Not in the Arch repos... Arch philosophy follows upstream decisions. Ie Gnome 3, no Gnome 2, and KDE 4 instead of supporting legacy KDE 3.x.
