hello,
I recently bought a new computer and I want to use arch again. So I tried the official 05.2010 iso which failed to boot.
So I obtained the latest iso from the releng project which is 6.8.2011.
This boots just fine and I could continue with the usual procedure, choosing net-install, and configuring network using dhcp-polling.
I could successfully configure time and date, prepare the harddrive, and choose the packages.
But when it comes to actually downloading them it doesn't really do much, stickting forever with the first two or three packages. (even ftp error occure).
It alway gives me a "eth0: link is up" message.
But it does not hardly download anything. (needless to say that I've tried different mirrors of course...5 or 6 of them).
So I'm wondering if this might have something to do with my hardware? Having an ASUS P8P67 sandy bridge mainboard and using 2.6.39.3 kernel maybe it's in the network drivers?
Hopefully I'm lucky that this dissappeares simply when a new iso with linux 3.0.1 comes out?

You can try the slightly older June testing isos.

or the newer one of 9.8.2011
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Your problem sounds like a bug in the NIC driver. Today's new image has Linux 3.0.1, so you should try that.

From the releng-ml:
http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 01878.html
images are at http://releng.archlinux.org/isos/2011.08.06/
they are completely untested.
Next message http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 01879.html
The dual netinstall ISO boots on x86_64, so not entirely untested!

just testet 9.8.2011 with the same results. It boots just fine and I can set everything. But when it comes to actually downloading the packages it sticks forever to the first 1-2 packages.

same thing with 10.8.2011...so unfortunately I can't use Arch on my new pc.
plus: I tested Fedora 15 today and even though the download and installation worked well the download during updates was pretty slow, too, even though I used the "fastestmirror" plugin. Just 200-300kb/s instead of 1,6MB/s that I'm used to.

well, testing isos are for testing and they have bugs. the today iso only net install works
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

haha...todays iso 11.8.2011 didn't even load the kernel image...guess I'll have to wait some more...

Or use the one from yesterday, worked for me

just tested 12.8.2011 with the same results.
I'd really like to help here since I'm testing the isos but don't know how to pin that particular problem down to file a bug report.

Unfortunately you're right.

with releng 15.8.2011 I start with the first option: "Select Source", and it gives me;
ERROR: ask_checklist param 2 needs to be 0/1 to denote whether there's an elaborate explanation field per option

15.08.2011 with the above bug fixed gives me;
"ERROR: you specified file: ///repo/$repo=$arch (->file:///repo/core/x86_64) as a directory to be used as repository, but it does not exist"
enough testing for me...I'll check back on Arch maybe in 6 months or so...

i've been having the same (already reported) issues with the testing ISOs...that's why they are TESTING!! i wouldnt dump Arch because you are trying to use something that is in a testing stage. maybe you arent familiar with the net install of Arch. you dont need to wait 6 months, when you do a net install, you get everything up to date!
but now that i check the download page, the new ISO has just been released today, 2011.08.19!!!! wooohooo!!!
