Howdy,
One of the packages that got upgraded today was: filesystem 2011.08-1. I saw that it created an /etc/fstab.pacnew.
No problem. I was going to fold in what was created in the /etc/fstab.pacnew file into my /etc/fstab file. Again, no problem.
However, I noticed that I already had something similar to what was new in the /etc/fstab.pacnew file. Here is my current
/etc/fstab file:
#
# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
devpts /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
shm /dev/shm tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 / ext4 defaults 0 1
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol01 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol02 /home ext4 defaults 0 1
UUID=ad91fc6a-8740-452d-a2e2-740bd80275c0 /boot ext4 defaults 0 1
The new line added to the /etc/fstab file is:
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
My question is do I need both of these? Are they pointing to the same thing or
did one get renamed hence the /etc/fstab.pacnew file and line within that file?
Or do I delete the shm line and just keep the tmpfs line?
shm /dev/shm tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
Thanks,
Pete

Hello prthorsenjr,
have a look at http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 21264.html and http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 21265.html.

Wey,
Thanks so much for the prompt reply. That was exactly the information that I was looking for.
I've edited out the entries for devpts and shm and added the appropriate entry for tmpfs.
Thanks again for the help,
Pete
