Fusion OS

Anybody tried this yet?  It's intriguing as it includes a Gnome 2 fork.

It might look pretty but development seems to be taking place on a predominantly Windows website and on the official site, I see no sign or mention of source/licence and there is even a claim that the DE will be Fusion OS exclusive hmm

I'm perma-banned from Neowin due to a disagreement with Neowin's largest investor (Stardock) so can't find out any further information unfortunately, but there is an actual download link for beta 3 if anybody is brave enough to try it.

http://www.fusionos.net/

Edit: "Beta 3" is coming soon, but can't find a download for Beta 1 or 2 sad

Edit 2: Is this the same project? http://sourceforge.net/projects/fos/ The SF page says they're based on ReactOS, but the "official" page says Ubuntu 10.10 :-|

Re: Fusion OS

Yup, there seems to be two projects called FusionOS but they aren't related, Fusion OS and Fusion Operating System.

Beta 3 can be downloaded here, looks like the fusionos.net website isn't used any more.

Re: Fusion OS

The direct download takes me here : http://simplyinnovation.net/fusionos/%3Ca
and the torrent download redirects me to their homepage.

Re: Fusion OS

Heh, tbh this project seems to be all over the place, but this post on the neowin forums has a valid link.

Oh good, that won't be confusing neutral

Cool, I'll have a look... They need to get their MIME types right on the server though; clicking download gave me the ISO in "plain text" in my browser window yikes tongue

Re: Fusion OS

Anyone knows what menu/search bar they're using in their screenshots, on the top-left corner? First pic on www.fusionos.net:

Re: Fusion OS

Just got the ISO booted in a VM... Overall, very slick I must say. Would love to see their Gnome 2 "fork" spread. Still quite noticeable Ubuntu branding in places though.

How did you download it? Their torrent link doesn't work and the iso opens in my browser

Re: Fusion OS

^ Thanks! Just tried it in Virtualbox. I'm interested to see where they take their GNOME2 fork, it works great imo. However, I don't like the fact they just remove the branding and 'claim the software as theirs'.

Btw, the menu/search applet is Cardapio smile

Yup.. VERY slow download for me though... Took hours! I can usually download a gb in under an hour.

That does seem a little suspicious...  I noticed someone asked where the sources are so they could contribute, but the question was ignored... Will be interesting to see how this unfolds wink

Re: Fusion OS

It's a bit surprising to read in the first paragraph that this system has been built by them from the ground up, when you know that it's Ubuntu based ...

And moreover this App Market is fun too, it will indeed grow very large knowing that every debian package should work flawlessly.
